Hi, I purchase the Commit Lozenges about 2 months ago.
Guess what? I can't seem to put one in my mouth. I have this fear that I can't seem to shake.. Please help. I hate this addition...

If I had to guess I would say that your fear of using the lozenge is that you may get hooked on it. Just wanted to let you know that this is not an irrational or an unwarranted fear. Here is a comment I wrote a few months back addressing this very issue:

There are a lot of people who are afraid to use the gum because they might get hooked on it. Well, I have news for all smokers who have this concern. You shouldn't waste a lot of time worrying about whether or not you might get hooked on the gum if you use it. You are already hooked on the gum.

For all practical purposes, every addicted smoker alive today who is now using nicotine gum is addicted to the gum. Also, every addicted smoker alive today who is not using the gum is addicted to the gum. Also, every long-term successful ex-smoker alive today, no matter how long they have been off, is addicted to the gum--even if they quit smoking long before the gum was ever produced.

The issue has never been a cigarette addiction or a gum addiction--it is a nicotine addiction. Changing the delivery mechanism of nicotine doesn't change the drug's ability to cause a relapse or of keeping an active smoker in the grips of an active chemical addiction.

It is the same issue as an alcoholic who has only drunk whisky all of his or her life now being worried that he or she will get addicted to vodka, scotch or rum if he or she should take it up now. The active ingredient is alcohol and as far as for breaking free and staying free the issue is not to drink alcohol from any source for the individual.

As far as for what to do about it--you must do the same thing that a person who is currently smoking needs to do if he or she wants to quit. You need to stop administering nicotine. Read any posts here, read all of www.whyquit.com, real any of my library materials at www.whyquit.com/joel, or read any page in the free e-book we have made available at www.whyquit.com/joel/ntap.pdf.

Any and all of these sources will make it clear what you need to do now if you want to break free from your nicotine addiction, which is simply to stop delivering nicotine from any nicotine delivery source and as far as for tobacco products to make and stick to a personal commitment to never take another puff.
