I have a Panama Amazon that is sooooo sweet.... except when the phone rings.  When my cell rings, she develops fangs, grows 6 feet tall and goes into attack mode.  I have changed the ring and bought a new phone, but she is not easily fooled.  I would appreciate any suggestions or advice.  Unfortunately, I have to keep the phone on because I am a social worker and my clients use that phone to contact me.

The ringing phone triggers a similar response around here.  Although, over the years - we've noticed that just TOUCHING a phone......play phone, real phone, remote control unit, anything that resembles a phone (when you have a bird on or within touching distance of your body) will get you a nice bite!
My personal opinion on this one - they are smart enough to know that phones are something that takes attention away from them.  The ringing just alerts them to the fact!

Mine will not tolerate me being on the phone. Caillou and Elmo will crowd in, get between my mouth and the receiver and yell into it. They need to be in on the conversation. Elmo once yelled "Take a bath!" into the phone when I was having a pre-op interview with a nurse. I was mortified. Fortunately she realized it was a parrot and thought it was hilarious. Marion

Can you keep the phone in a different room from the birds? Does she bite at the ring or as you pick up?If it's at the ring, I think I'd do as purekath suggested and put it in your pocket on vibrate. then when it rings, I'd leave the room to answer it. I would also let the Zon know that you are very displeased witrh that behavior and maybe give her a time out in the cage.
Kit is pretty easy going... he will get on my shoulder and turn towards me and say "hello?" several times with different tones and inflections. If he starts biting at the phone (usually not hard) I'll toss him to his cage. [Please note, this isn't as bad as it sounds, he's flighted and his cage is next to my desk- only maybe 3 feet away. The toss is a gentle one.] And tell him "no" very firmly. This is just enough to let him know he's crossed the line of what I'll tolerate and what I won't. He usually pouts for about 5 minutes, then comes and moans and whines and gives me a few kisses and rubs his face on mine. I can't stay mad at him.
I know that attitude, consistancy, tone of voice and facial expressions go a long way here. Even when Rica is lunging at me on her cage.. I don't back down or show fear. I just frown at her and tell her to cut it out, no one's threatening her, then go about the cleaning etc.. like she isn't there. Of course I do watch her out of the corner of my eye. She will usually stop after a few minutes.
I can't say what will work for your bird. I think I'd try and avoid the problem first, and maybe try a cage time out next? Maybe try and distract her with a toy or something if you can do it before she starts to attack?
