| | | | What to do if you lose a bird. Tips: - Look in areas near your home, then in gradually widening circles.
  - Get as many pairs of eyes and ears possible.
  - Many times they are very scared and very quiet to keep from drawing preditors near.
  - Look everywhere- high and low.
  - Watch and listen to the wild birds and squirrels. Often they can alert you to your bird since they tend to raise a ruckous at anything 'new' or 'strange' to them.
  - Neighborhood dogs and cats too may alert you with their behavior.
  - Put his/her cage outside with food (favorite treats may help) and water.
  - If you have any other birds, if/when safe, put them out in secure, locked cages. Especially in the mornings and evenings when they are the most vocal.
  - Print up flyers. If possible, put the bird's pic on it. Post them anywhere and everywhere you can get permission to. Telephone poles, stores, etc...
  - Keep pictures, band and/or microchip brand & number available near the phone for identification if the bird is found.
Places & People to notify or ask for help: Keep in mind that non-bird people may not know what kind of bird it is or who to report or take it to if they find it. - Call and notify all Pet shelters, rescues, the pound, the Humane Society and or ASPCA. Follow up later with a flyer.
  - Call the state Game & Fish and the local office of the federal Wildlife Dept. and the Agricultural Extention Service.
  - Talk to neighbor kids. They often go places adults can't/don't go and see things adults miss.
  - Alert ALL Vets, Pet shops/stores starting close to home first, then working farther away.
  - Talk to city service and utility workers that are in the area including police and firemen. Notify their offices, departments, stations as well incase someone asks for their help.
  - Talk to deliver people like postmen, UPS, FedEx, Schwan's, and any other local people who work outside a lot like lawn workers, tree trimmers, etc...
  - Talk to Radio Stations and put ads in newspapers.
