I received this email from Kate about 15 minutes ago. My heart is breaking for Sandra, but especially for Kate and her brother James, and my son Jason and James' wife Michelle. Dear Friends, This is not the news I wanted to share with you all, but here it goes. We've been speaking a lot to the doctors recently, and we've been told that chemo isn't an option for Mum since her kidneys aren't working well and there is some leaking from the bowel surgery. The tumour is continuing to grow very quickly, and there's not anything further they can do for her to fight this thing. Unfortunately, they're only really going to be able to do palliative care at this point. We've asked to get her moved into a hospice setting and out of the surgical ward at the hospital. It will be so much more comfortable for her and they won't be poking her a thousand times a day testing for this and that. She'll be able to spend the time she's got left with her family and others she loves, away from the chaos of the hospital setting. James arrived yesterday with Michelle and the baby, so we can all be together. I'll let you all know where she's going to be be once we've got the hospice settled. It should be in the next 48 hours. I wish I had better news as I can't really believe I'm having to tell you this. Thanks for all the love and support, Kate Leslie |

Praying for comfort & strength for them as they go through this heart-breaking and bittersweet time. So sorry it is sad news for them instead of something more hopeful. |

of course you and your family are in my prayers. just so you know hospice care can be done in her own home. hospice care can included her own nurse. who will do everything to make your mother more comfortable for the time she has left including pain meds so that she not in any pain and anything else that will make her comfortable linda |

Good morning, everyone I just opened an email that Kate sent late last night: I just wanted to touch base and give you all the information about the hospice. We got her transferred today and she's got a lovely room with a big window overlooking some flowering rhododendron bushes and magnolia trees. It is so much more peaceful and pleasant than the hospital. She will be so much more comfortable there. Love, Kate I am glad they were able to find Sandra this place so quickly - it is an answer to prayers! It will be better for everyone to be away from the hospital. I'm going to try to get over to the Mainland this weekend for a time, as I had already booked Monday off. Thank you all for your prayers, Abby |

Thanks for sharing the news with us, Leslie. I'm glad they have her moved now. I think this will make it more comfortable for everyone at least..as comfortable as one can get in this kind of situation. Know that we carry you and the family in our hearts and think about ya'll often and send prayers at least as often. |

Kate sent this email this morning: Hi, everyone. I don't have anything all that new to report. Mum is settled quite comfortably into her room at the hospice, and we've put up a bunch of photos for her to look at. We've got CDs playing on the 5-disc changer all day, with the lovely classical music she enjoys. She's got visitors most of the day who fetch her water or juice when she needs it, and either talk to her or sit quietly and read, just to keep her company. So things are about as good as they possibly could be, at this point. Much love to all, Kate Abby |
