Well, the family met at the Keg to celebrate Dad's 85th birthday -- only two days after the event. All went well until it was time to leave. The entranceway is pretty dim, and Dad forgot that there was a step down from the doorsill. He overbalanced when he put his cane down and it kept going, and fell and bashed his cheek and forehead. Took him back into the foyer and said him down, got pads of gauze from their first aid kit and got him cleaned up. The gash on his foreheadlooked pretty deep, and he had abrasions on his cheek as well. His forehead is really lumpy, and his cheek was swelling as well. We got a bag of ice cubes and a napkin to wrap them in, and Murray took him and Mom to the hospital, with Laura following in their car. I couldn't take them as I'm night blind, and driving in city traffic in the dark is really ugly for me. I sure hope that he didn't crack or break anything on his cheek! Abby |

How is Murray today, Abby? Scared the dickens out of me when I read about his fall. I felt weird with a walker for about a day, then decided it's lot's better than turning my butt up for the world to see at the next fall. Those steps may have gotten him anyway, but every little thing can help. We have two steps down into our living room and I know that one day I will forget to lift the walker down. Uh oh. That won't be fun at all. Blessings, Murray. Hope your bumps and bruises heal quickly. Annie |

Dad sees his doc in the morning. In the meanwhile, the wounds are still seeping fluid, but I guess that's to be expected. I surely am going to talk with him about using a walker. This was just too scary!! Thank you so much, everyone. I'm going to give Dad a link to this thread so he can see everyone's concern! Abby |

Big Murray, I'll bet your dignity is bruised all to heck and back! Thjose falls are so scary and make you so sore and frightened and then afterwards I always feel like such a dolt for putting on such a show. Take care of yourself from one frequent faller to another....di |

Tell Murray I have a nifty walker. It has snapper type latches that allow me to collapse it sideways and roll it between narrow spaces. Then on the front there are wheels and on back were just crutch tips but we put tennis balls over them so it slides easily over carpeting. Someday I can yank them off and play tennis when I feel like it. I made a bag for the front so I can carry my portable phone, my sunglasses, my cell phone and my Nitro. No stopping me now. Annie |

I'll be adding him to my prayers along with everyone elses....I certainly hope and pray he'll come through this without any lingering problems. I'm so glad he didn't hit and eye or even his temple.....how scarey! I hope he doesn't stay in pain for long and thank goodness he isn't allergic to meds like his poor daughter! You too take care, I know this has got to have you shaking. Love to you and your Dad and the rest of your family, Dale Oh shoot....and I'm so sorry I missed his B-day...Happy Very Very Belatedly Birthday! |

That poor dear man. They bruise so easily at that age. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Barb |

I had lunch with Mom and Dad today. Dad looks like a racoon, poor guy. The black "eyes" come all the way to under his cheek bone! Abby |
