I have two very cute and VERY silly parakeets.  I am wondering how you know if they are a heathly weight.  They love to eat (sometimes, sometimes they just dump them on the ground) fruits and veggies, they love their seed and the occasional millet spray.  I think their wight is fine, but I don't know how to tell! thanks! |

I'm sure there are scientific specifications for what a mature budgie should weight but I judge proper weight by feel and look.  A bird's keel bone should be covered with layers of muscle and appropriate fat, and should never be prominent.  On the other hand,  you should not see a puffy/chubby profile of that breast area.  If they are eating normally and exercising exhuberantly, they're probably maintaining their proper weight.  JMO     |
