A lot is going to depend on the species of birds, and right after a hand feeding introduce them to greens, veggies and softened pellets....
Come back and give us more info on your birds. Then we'll be able to help you especially those that have the same type bird as yourself..

Hi Again,
i have two peach faced lovebirds. they are about 6 weeks old, i got them at 2 1/2 weeks old and have been hand feeding them a formula. they are now flying, cherping, bathing and all the normal activities, however they are not eating on their own yet. i have tried apple, carrots, raisins, seed and pears. they hold the food in the beak but will soon drop it. what am i doing wrong??? MLE

You'll just have to keep offering them the different foods in their bowls and when they are interested  they'll try the new foods
How many feedings are you giving them? And maybe those need to be cut back, along with the quantity.
We have quite a few love bird owners, who have hand raised them and as soon as MSN lets them post I'm sure they'll be on here helping out...
Have you introduced softened pellets? or seed? if they eat either then mixing a new food in with those will also encourage them to try something new....
I take it though it is strictly the formula.... would they try formula out of a food dish placed in their cage? and if so gradually advance with solids from that point....

They aren't quite ready to be eating on their own.  They should be eating some other foods, but will need handfeedings for another week or two, gradually tapering down according to how much other food they start eating.

Before you give a handfeeding, prepare a little dish (mayonnaise jar lid words very well) of small pieces of broccoli heads, diced apple, fresh corn kernels, thawed frozen peas, grated carrots, and some small seeds (I give them loose millet seeds to start with, to learn how to get into them.  A cockatiel mix of mostly millet with some sunflowers is good.  )  Add some SMALL pellets (finch size), or crush a larger size.  Feed them their formula as normal, then put them into the cage with the fresh food dish  on the floor.  The will probably start picking around and tasting the foods quickly.
