I would like to know how to take care or what to do with a baby wild bird that is on my lawn and I have no nest to put it back into. I would like to know what to feed it or where I can take it.

Hi !! Sorry I am not real knowlegable on this subject but I thought if I answered you and the message got bumped up  again someone may be able to help.....I guess it depends on what sort of bird it is ..I had some baby doves that I just fed a hand rearing mix I bought and they did fine on that , also depends how old it is and if it will take the food from a spoon or if it will need to be fed with a syringe ......maybe you would be best call a local vet and ask......I hope the birdie is o.k  and I wish you luck...

Hi,  we have a member, Feathers, who is a wild bird rehabber.  She will probably be here later today and may be able to advise you.   Annie

Well...another little wild one!  Hmmm...first you really need to find out what kind of baby it is..this can make a BIG difference on what you feed it.  For starters..make sure you keep him warm..and feed him a little bread soaked in warm milk.  Not soaking wet..just enough for moisture.  This will do until you can figure out what you've got.  What color is he?  Any feathers? How about the inside of his mouth and the edges..what color do you see?  What color are the legs?  Do you know what kind of trees you have around for him to have fallen from?  If you're not sure you want to take on such an undertaking..you can call your wildlife division for that state.  They will have a list of rehabbers and can advise you who to call.  Another place to look for rehabbers is on the internet.  Still..you'll need to take care of the little guy until you get him placed..if you so desire.  Try getting some small mealworms..this will work for seed eaters too.  Cut them up into small pieces and feed the baby using tweezers.   The number of times you'll feed him will depend on the kind of bird and the age.
