Okay, I need some help. I've raised a few wild critters in the past, but we have this roadrunner that keeps visiting us daily. This guy comes and taps on the window with me standing right there. Follows my finger. Always has some prey in his mouth. Sits on the porch and wags his tail. If I go out, he runs toward the woods, but keeps stopping and looking, as if beckoning to follow. I haven't found a nest yet. Anybody have info on roadrunner behavior?

Yes, all the info from the group and sites for greater roadrunner are saying the same thing. This little guy was back yesterday, flapping at the window. Had a frog this time. Initially ran a few feet away, then doubled back, wagging his tail and walking along the porch railing. A real hoot!

I would love to see a picture if you can get one.  So is a road runner really as tall as I imagine (per the cartoon image in my head) ?  If tall enough to tap on your window, I am guessing they are tall like Flamingoes are ?

Here's a pic.  He's 24 inches beak to tail.
I will delete this photo in a few days.

Thanks Annie & Jensbirds.  Cute little fella.  He's got a mischevious sort of look to him I think.

Crack me up!!!  Goodbird has a memory like an elephant.
I do have a lizard living under my couch.  Can't catch the little bugger.

Oh, no. They're only about 16" high. He jumps up on the sill and taps. There's some great pics of greater roadrunners on the web, and illustrations, too. I saw him yesterday running along the driveway, but he hasn't paid a visit since Saturday.

Julestail,  Just as a clarification--birds are measured brom tip of beak to tip of tail.  Makes it confusing sometimes, because if they have a very long tail, it doesn't clue us as to how tall they stand.  I imagine the bird you see probably is much "longer" than "tall".   I think the one that dashes through my yard is about 14 to 16 inches tall, but the tail length makes him a very large bird.
The picture above came from a "birds of Oklahoma" website.
When I see ours he always has his crest raised. I assumed it was upright feathers til I saw these pictures.

All those are, are Texas chickens!!  Did you happen to see the coyote around the area, and empty Acme mail order boxes? hehe
