you had asked ekkie about the galahs eyes a while back. i was told i had a male and female. got to looking at the eyes again today and the one i was told is male has the red lumpy eye circle with a reddish brown iris.the female has grey eye circle with no lumps and a tiny eye compared to the other but both have same coloured iris's.the male would be about 5 yrs old now and the female possibly a bit older. im just wondering if i have two of the same sex, it doesnt matter just wondering is all. everything i keep finding on them says the female has a reddish brown eye and the male has a darker brown eye and both have same grey eye circles. or is it possible i have 2 different sub species i know the different areas here have different colourings and size.

when i first got them they did have different coloured eyes.i can try to get a pic of them but not sure how the females would turn out she isnt very nice lol.

i finally figured out what the males problem has been with me also lol. turns out he dont like my dark blue shirts lol. pale blue is ok but not dark lol.found that out cause i was playing with him when i was wearing a green one then had to get ready for work and changed into my dark blue and he started back up like he was doing , dive bombing to the bottom of the cage and lunging at me. silly bird lol

Sorry about the delete but I get confused on how to spell colour... it's one of those days...lol

There are two species I believe in the wild but what we see here in the pet trade are the darker pink and grey with the males having brown eyes and the females a more reddish eye?

The Eastern Galahs have the reddish eye ring whereas the Western has the more whitish grey eye ring.

I was hoping I could see the parents up close to see what they were.

I had two pair at one time and it wasn’t until chicks came along did I notice the differences? And the older they got the more “bumps?with distinct colour rings?I had the pale rings around the eyes which is the Western. I’ll see what I have in the way of close ups especially with the little grey or red bumps?

I had a problem like you with the eye colour as even today with Magnolia a M2 she has all the traits of being a female but her eye is black?. She’s supposed to have reddish brown?/FONT>

Isn't that strange about the dark blue coloured shirt... Since they don't see colours as we do I wonder what he actualy sees? I had one bird that when I wore my yellow coat on cold mornings he's get into his fighting mood and attack...

I was intriqued with this info so went looking for photos by googling to see if I could find the difference.  Look what I found .    didn't find what I was looking for but think this is neat.

yep oz is full of big stuff lol. got the big prawn  big merino big trout plus heaps of other stuff to all over the country. one of my friends down in sydney is slowly traveling around to see all the big stuff lol.
im wondering now if what i thought was the female is a western galah. both were found on the central coast of nsw. the female was a young  wild caught and the male had been hit by a car as a little one . i had always thought the males had the red bumpy around the eye and the female had the grey plus the colour to. the one i say is female her body is bigger then the other  but it was the eye size is what really got me. the male has a huge eye compared to the female.she has that little slitty looking mean eye lol. but its open wide.
petting the male on his back yesterday i could feel all the old breaks in his wings. they are a mess. he still wont let the long flight feathers grow in all the way but i have never seen him pull them out or even touching them.they just seem to get to long and fall out.same with his tail to.poor little guy still thinks  he can fly though.
i couldnt believe i added the u in colour so used to it being color lol. guess the 4 yrs i have been here are rubbing off finally lol. now if only i could start loving the food here lol.

Franksgal.................email me and I'll send you a pic so you can compare...
MSN won't let me have any more space....
but what I thought was a female due to eye colour was SS as a male... Ofourse by the time he was about seven then the bumps became apparent....
