Building a house and will have a 5x7 glassed atrium for Jazz...10 year old.  He's plucked for several years and found putting hand lotion on chest after bath seems to help.  Friend must get rid of her Too, and since we'll have the room, would like to add Coco, approx 10 years old, to the family.  Not sure of sex of either bird.  Introduced them and they seem interested and not aggressive.  What do I need to watch for?.... should I keep birds in separate cages for awhile?

Jazz is smaller, but more animated and talks better.  Coco has plucked but is now fully feathered.  Both are easy to deal with outside the cage.  If they bond, will they ignore me?  Don't want to loose my buddy, but want him to be happy.

Any comments will be appreciated.....

Hi Bobbi, Glad to see you back here. Been a long time.

I won't try to advise you since I haven't had Toos in many many years. Watch for help from our members who still have them. Someone will be along soon, I hope.
Annie

Hi Bobbi.  I don't have toos now..have only had one for a short period of time but I'll put my two cents in anyway.  I wouldn't advise putting them together just yet.  I had several birds at one time and although they all got along well together, if left to their own devices some would fight if one got just a tad too close to the others so called territory.  I don't know how long you've had Jazz or just how bonded he/she is to you so unsure how it'll turn out with the newcomer.  It may just be that he is bonded so well with you that any other will not come between you two.  And if they do happen to become a couple sometimes they still retain a nice relationship with the "owner".  However, it wouldn't be the same as before.  I've not heard of using hand lotion on a bird before and would be reluctant to try it as lotion may cause pores to clog.  Just be sure to inspect Jazz for any inflamation.  I sure am curious to see how the lotion works out...would you mind putting in a note or two as time goes by...just to let us know how it works out?  I hope the newbie works out well for both you and Jazz.  Dale

Well, had both birds at my house this weekend.  Let one out at a time and Jazz seemed the most interested.  They did bang beaks and I'm not sure if it was aggressive or not.  Coco is mild tempered and very cautious.  Jazz is the adventurer and reached in with claw to touch.
Hand lotion seems to be working and I see new feathers appearing on his chest.  Jazz didn't go for the bitter spray stuff they sell at pet store. I put the lotion on after his shower while he is wrapped in the towel.
Have had Jazz since 2000.  Coco has been moved around alot, did live in a tavern where she plucked.  Not sure of sex of either one, but Coco is bigger with smaller feet and beak.  Not concerned with mating, just getting along.
Would love to hear from anyone who has dealt with this situation.
Thanks, Bobbi
