Well we lost all our finches expect for one so now he's inside with a new friend.  Went out to check the birds feed and saw a couple of our finches on the ground dead! Then saw our pied finch dead and saw the only survivour on the ground not looking to good so brought him inside and now he's looking a bit better.  We had a big thunder and lightening storm the other day and the pet shop lady said this could of killed the birds due to thebad weather and it stressed them out too much poor thingswe have been having in NZ lately.  The only birds to survive were the two canaries we have.  We brouhgt anothe pair yesterday they are just gergous they are both white with a little black on the head of the female and the male has orange tinges through his feathers so nice looking.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  It must be devastating to have three little guys die and another nearly succumb at about the same time and not know why.

Just my opinion:
It's been my experience that most pet store employees are far from "experts" on the subject of  bird ailments.  They can't be experts because they haven't had the training to be able to diagnose.  Consequently, I hope that you had a necropsy done on one or all of them so that the survivor can be treated, in the event that the deaths were caused by a disease or other ailment instead of "stress", and so the newest additions to your flock can be protected.  I assume that you're keeping them in quarantine but perhaps the aviary will need to be disinfected and/or remodeled while you're waiting for the quarantine period to pass.

Perhaps there is some online site that can give you good ideas on how to remodel your aviary so that there is a wonderful, protected area where the birds can escape the trauma of bad weather.  Or perhaps you could move the flock indoors so this sad situation won't arise again.    Do let us know how this all works out, please.  We do care.

I know that had to be quite a shock and you must have felt so very sad........
I know so little about finches and can't say one way or the other that the storm was the culprit, though somehow I have my doubts..........
I'm with BL on this and would make sure with the necropsy rather than have a silent illness that could still be transmittable to the new members of your flock family.
Most birds take shelter during storms and some even can enjoy the downpour. I see the wild finches here forraging when the it's  monsoon rains. . Too2
