I'm with you, Crystal.  15 years ago when we moved in there was just this house and some ancient apple trees on our acre plus of land.  Only birds around weere crows and hawks.

We planted huge bird friendly flower garden and shrubs and  had so many song birds come back to area  that it seemed like paradise with all the songing and bird calls.

About five years ago we got new neighbors that "rescue" feral cats and spay and neuter them and turn them loose in their yard~our yard~the neighbor's yard~the wild fields in back of us has become their hunting ground and our flower beds are used as their bathroom.  Our song bird population has dropped considerably due to their hunting habits.

We have live trapped them and taken them to animal control, after warning the neighbors we were going to do so.......silly us, seems they are all microchipped and they are immediately returned to the "nice rescue folks" without any charge!   GRRRRR.  di

I love that picture!  I have a copy of it hanging on the wall.  In the past I have been guilty of allowing my cats to go outside, with wild birds suffering.  My present cat is never allowed outside, and I'll never let any future cats outside either because of what they do to birds.  My neighbors cats come over, but my dogs chase them away every time I let them outside.  This week I found a dead quail on the ground, its head almost severed at the neck.  I have no idea what did that.  Kathy

I can't stand most outside cats either. I did have one who left birds alone but loved hunting the ground squirrels we had in AZ. I tried keeping her in but she was very adept at darting past legs, especially if my hands were full. My current cat Monkey has never been outside except one time when she was rubbing against the window screen and it ripped. Scared her to death and it took me 45 min of chasing her to catch her. She won't even go out the door if it's propped open.
Here are a few cat-bird gifs I thought I'd share. I love the 1st one.

Those are really cute Erika!  Thank you for sharing them.  I'm sure that birds would feel safer if the cat was in the cage, and they were free to fly about.  Kathy
