Problem #1--the two species should be separated, if they are fighting. As a last resort before separating them all, if the aviary is large enough you might want to try adding LOTS of branches and hiding spots for them. Is it large enough that you can walk inside? Large enough to put some tall potted plants that would simulate a natural treed environment? Can you divide the aviary and give them each their own space? #2--Having a safe space of their own might help take care of the problem. But if she is injuring him, they should also be separated from each other. Some fighting and *argument* is to be expected between birds in a breeding pair. But you also need to decide what the purpose/goal is of having them together, and how much bickering you feel they should tolerate, according to that purpose. |

I agree that the birds should be separated. If you have a walk-in aviary, I would divide it in half. If it is smaller, I would create another like it for one pair. Frankly, I don't think that everyone's birds must breed and raise young just because they happen to be of the opposite sex. (What is the purpose of keeping them together as breeders instead of as pets?) And I don't think that any bird should endure possible injury from another bird. So, I would put the two females in one aviary and the males in the other, if those pairs don't violently bicker. Just my opinion. |
