Ok I have 2 lovebirds and of course they had eggs, me being the wise woman I am let them stay in the cage as I didn't want an egg laying contest. Anyway to my point, the eggs are in a tent and this morning I peeked in and saw that 2 of the eggs had holes in them, I took the tent out and low and behold there were little babies that had apparentlly tried to peck their way out of the eggs. Can someone please tell me how to avoid this again? There are 3 more eggs, am I suppose to watch them all the time? I am not a breeder nor do I plan to be, but I suppose I may have 3 new lovebirds in my home. I really need to know what to do here, I don't want her to loss all her babies.
I do have handfeeding expereince but this part I've never been through before.

Is the tent hanging or sitting on the cage floor?  Did the babies start pecking through and die or what?  Does it look like the shells were too tough for them to crack and they died in the process?  Give more details about what you found.

Are you sure the holes were from the babies and not from the parents smashing the eggs?  Did the babies look fully formed? (I'm assuming those two were not alive?)

There were 2 and it looks as if they had tried to peck out of the shell, there were holes between the size of a pin hole and a pencil.
They were fully formed babies, and ready to he hatched, it was very sad they were dead when I found them. The tent is hanging, I thought about moving it to the floor of the cage but I didn't want to upset the mommy.
