Hi yall!

Can someone please help me decide? I am in the market for a new pet birdy to love and adore. I have had a few budgies when I was younger and a hand tamed Cockatiel which I absoultely adored. I hear that Lovebirds can be very nippy and mean but I love their playfulness. Are they really impossibly hard to tame? Does anyone have any information or suggestions? Thanks so much!

Rachel

You could always get my favorite, a Quaker Parrot. They are my first love. Or, you could get a Sun Conure, my little Solleil is a sweetheart too.

I am not making your decision any easier am I?

Lovebirds can be very sweet and cuddly and gentle, but some arent. Some are nippy and fiesty. But if you spend enough time with your lovie, and get a handfed baby right after it weans, you should be able to have a nice friendly bird who enjoys handling. They are extremely playful and fun to watch.  They learn the step up command easily and can be trained to be obedient little fids.  If you happen to get one that is also cuddly, than that is a bonus. But dont expect it, and you wont be disappointed.  If you can be content with a bird that doesnt like lots of petting and touching, and will occasionally nip you, than you can be very happy with a fun and adorable little lovebird. Thats my opinion, anyway!  good luck!

Either of the choices depends on the amount of time you spend interacting with the bird....... Since both the choices if female are prone to excessive egg laying I think I'd try for a male ... or as was suggested ... get a Quaker.......... when it comes to small birds the Quaker is hard to beat...............price wise I believe they are comparable......Too2

if you get a baby lovie make sure its resently finnished hand feeding I find that since they haven't had time to bond with brothers and sisters they are more friendly
my peavey was the BEST baby in the world. so loving and cuddly. I'd go with a lovie myself

Lovebirds?  Nippy?  Mean?  What planet?  I've never known such gentle creatures.

Lovebirds, to me are the best!!! you wont find a better bird! This is just me. Lovebirds can be nippy, but tiels are also nippy. Lovebirds bond to one or two people, which i like! But it really depends on what you want!
I'm curretenly feeding 4 Baby lovebirds. They are very sweet and friendly. Where abouts do you live? I live in washington (state). If you are close by you could come take a look, and get to meet a lovebird. I will not ship though.

Have you made a decision yet? I think all birds can be nippy at times... some get downright nippy....but we adjust to those times and try to overcome the problem. Too2
