Greetings to all.  I am trying to find the best macaw sanctuary that is accepting birds.  I am not looking for a person that wants a pet bird in a cage.  I am seeking a place that has a large open avairy and the ability to provide proper care for the birds.
If you have such a place or know of one, please respond by email.
Thank you,

william and sunny

Hi William & Sunny.
Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be judgemental... you choice is your business and you don't have to answer if you wish not to. Just out of curiosity, why have you chosen a sanctuary instead of an individual? What are the pros and cons to you? I have thought about this in respect to my birds if something should happen to me and my family didn't want to or couldn't keep them.
Please, do as much research as possible before surrendering your bird. I know there are good and bad out there, and some that had good intentions to start with but ran into trouble...  I have heard of sanctuaries going out of business, and or adopting birds out that were surrendered for permanent placement. Some became overwhelmed physically & finacially. And some are wonderful and are stable...

Here is one in Georgia that I have heard about but don't know anything personally... . http://www.featheredfriendsforever.org/index.html

The Oasis Sanctuary in Arizona is a great place and one of the best, it is the first avian sanctuary to become 501(c)(3) non profit organization and very well established.

You've just got too much time on your hands.  Wonder if they ever found what they were looking for.

Wow...responses after sooooo many months!  I still have Sunny.  She (maybe he) is 10 and a half years old.  I'm still open to suggestions...  Currently I'm talking with the local zoo.  They are creating a Macaw exhibit...more like a "walmart greeter" program  where they would be situated near the entrance and have lots of interaction with visitors.   Feedback is welcome
