It is amazing to go back and see stuff I wrote years ago. I don't remember that at all.
I had a male scarlet who weighed 1250. He was certainly not fat. Good size, larger than most scarlets but I thought B&Gs were always larger than scarlets. I have seen some who were a lot bigger than Rio.
Remember it takes a small built bird and a big built bird to make an average weight. Go by averages only and no bird will be exactly what the charts say they should weigh.
If you can separate the breast feathers and look at his skin, you will see yellow if he's fat. Also you should be able to feel his keel bone (breast bone) easily. But, if you can feel his breast tissues stick out beyond the keel, then yep, he's overweight.
I had a fat fat amazon, my adorable Julie, who was so fat we couldn't feel her keel at all. She died as a result of a fall that ruptured her air sacs. She was too fat to land gracefully. Her death was painful and horrible, so keep them a bit low rather than a bit high in weight.
