Repost for Karma (Cat n Loco). This is the ad for the new Green Wing that they will be picking up on Saturday! Click the link on the bottom to see her photo in the album in BB:

Mika  is an 8 year old female Green Wing Macaw who loves life and all the people in it! She is the sweetest macaw I have come across and doesn't have an angry bone in her body. She is very gentle with all people and even with her food (she doesn't like to bite her macadamia nuts hard enough to break them!). She has a lot of patience even with children and likes to take her time while eating. She'll savor a nut or favorite treat for minutes after our smaller birds have already quickly gobbled it down. She is a dunker and loves to re-hydrate her dried fruits in her water bowl and dunk all her pellets. She loves to eat and will make you change her water a few times a day (I think she gets a kick out of it!). She is never lacking in sense of humor! She loves to take showers with my wife and I on her Sandy Perch shower perch and enjoys cuddling up afterward. She is a bit partial to men (she is a female after all), but warms right up to women with a little more encouragement. She eats a varied diet and enjoys Harrison's, Zupreem, and organic pellets. She loves nuts as all birds do and fresh fruits and veggies. Cookable bird foods are eaten with delight and she loves to eat with family at dinner time (she's in our dining room and peaks at us for some food off our plate!). I have worked with hundreds of macaws and she is by far the quietest I have encountered. Our Severe Macaw is much more vocal and even she is quiet! She is a bit shy when it comes to vocalizing, but when comfortable will say "hello", "step up", "whatcha doing", "goodnight", "night night", "what!" , and several others. It's more usual to hear her bark like the dog in her own quiet way and other sounds like knicking on the door and sounds from movies. Where Mikka shines is in her lovable and cuddly demeanor. She is definitely the epitome of a companion bird and loves spending peaceful down time with the family. She enjoys being alone as well and does very well in her cage or on her java wood playstand. She is content watching what people are doing around her and very rarely yells for attention. She can be loud when she wants to be, but if she screams a few times a month thats a rare month! She has never pooped on any of our guests or anyone in our family and knows to go on her playstand or over a waste bin, sink, or toilet.

It pains me to have to sell Mikka, but we are selling our home and moving to a place where keeping all of our 12 birds is just not possible :( Mikka is a large green wing (Green Wings are the 2nd largest parrot in the world) and we just can't fit the large cage into our new home. We are not a bird store or breeder and don't want to be a part of breeding these beautiful animals. I have worked for many years to help people provide a better life for their parrots by showing them ways to improve quality of life and eating habits of their parrots. Many of the birds we have are ones that I took special interest in and couldn't see letting them go to a new home. Unfortunately with our family growing with babies of our own the time has come to reduce the flock. I am looking for a special person or family for this incredible bird. I want Mikka to have all the best and will be providing many items to be sure she will be well taken care of.

Included with Mikka will be her Dometop 48"x36"x74" Powder Coated Wrought Iron Bird Cage in Sandstone (Tan) Color which was purchased 8 months ago for $700.00, all of her sandy perches, manzanita perches, toys, treats, full spectrum floor lamp and full spectrum cage top lamp. The cage has 4 feeder stations for stainless steel xtra large cups and 1 breeder door. About a dozen stainless steel bowls for her cage for easy feeding and watering as well as some Lixit Acrylic easy-lock Crocks. I will be including some extras of her favorite toys and will give be sure to let you in on all of Mikka's likes and dislikes. I am sure when I send you home with her there will be more I want her to leave with, she's my baby... I estimate all of the toys, lights and other goodies at about $800.00.

I would like for her new family to have a nice playstand for her as well. I have a Java Wood playstand that is perfect for her which measures about 6' wide X 2.5' x 7' in height she can be seen perched on it in a few of the pics. If her new family doesn't have a playstand I have several for sale and will discount them greatly so she has what she needs. Since she is a big bird she requires a big sturdy playstand and the java wood is perfect with carvings in the tree and along the carved wooden base. It really is a piece of art on it's own and is one solid tree, not one of those piece together playstands. Everyone who comes into our home thinks it's a piece of artwork before they realize what it is! If interested in the playstand e-mail me and I will provide pics and can list it for sale on livedeal.com.

I wholeheartedly believe that bringing a bird into your home when they have had a chance to build a personality is important. All baby birds are cute and cuddly just like human babies are, but every bird has a unique personality and not all stay that way. Considering their longevity it's best to find a parrot that has lived a few years and has shown its true personality before making a commitment especially if noise, children, spouse, mess, etc. are an issue.

Mika can be picked up and cage can be dis-assembled if necessary for transport. Cage knocks down flat into 4 main pieces with a few other pieces for the roof, grate tray, etc. All toys will be boxed and help will be available to load into your vehicle. Please e-mail for pickup information as we will try to make pickup as easy as possible and as stress-free for mikka as possible. If necessary I will provide a carrier for Mika which can be kept for her.

He won't get here until Sunday Abby.Allen is leaving tomorrow and driving 5 hours to New Jersey hoping to get there around 2:00 P.M ,spending sometime with Mika and his old owner that afternoon and evening and spending the night in N.J then heading 5 hours back on Sunday.
Most of the time people(us included) just rush in see the bird for a little bit pack it up and head out the door we find this is very stressful for the bird.So we decided this time we wanted to do it a bit slower for Mika's sake.

How exciting !!!   I have never had interest in owning /mothering a large bird like a macaw... but this Mika sounds like an absolute doll.  I think you are very lucky to be welcoming a bird like that into your home... and Mika is very fortunate to be going to good bird parents like you two.  Praying for safe travels for Allen... and for the poor souls that have to give up this wonderful sounding bird.  I know they will be heartbroken to see her go.

Hubby left here at 6 a.m this morning & called me at 12:20 and said"I am here looking at Mika  she is on her tree and its huge and beautiful she is 6 inches from my face and she's beautiful"
As of right now I am not sure if he is coming back today or tomorrow Russell Mika's previous owner was feeling under the weather last night so it depends on how he is feeling today. If he comes home today he will need to leave no later than 3 P.M to make it home by 8 P.M so we'll see in the next hour.
Russell use to be part owner of birdparadise.com in n.j so Allen stopped there and picked up some things including one of those big fishermen's type of ropes

Update........
Hubby just called and he is spending the night in Jersey and heading home tomorrow .
Allen said that they weighed Mika and she must be a small greenwing because she only weights 1100 grams and I know Abby our B&G weights 1340 grams I thought Greenwings were bigger....
