hyfie, Welcome to BB. I read where on another post you mentioned having birds but now don't. Sorry to hear that. What does bird trainer mean? I did read you had macaws that you trained for shows, did that mean teaching them to do tricks? It sounds very interesting. I hope you will share your experiences as I'm sure you have many. There are times when mine dont even want to step up, they refuse to do the simple commands, and there is one that I have to litterly chase down to get back in her cage. I suppose when I've had enough I'll clip her wings. Not ready for that as yet so need hints on how to entice her back to her cage. Do you believe in praise or giving treats? Tink. How about I send Oscar to you or you send Buddy here, better still lets send them to Oklahoma????? Toolady

Now wait just a darn minute, Toolady. Don't you threaten me with sending that chainsaw of a bird to me. My babies are all sweeties and that's just what I need these days. I agree that Hyfie could be of great help to corral those lil biting, screaming stinkers. Annie |

I can send Gizmo, but not Buddy. He is my baby. Gizmo is the M2. He spent the majority of the day outside today, seemed to like it a lot. But I cant just leave him out, and I cant let him stay out of his cage inside, and hold him tooo. Thats what shuts him up. ARGH!!!! His best friend was a quaker named Oscar. I have thought about taking Oscar and see if that helps, but one TOO biting me is more than enough. hehe Watch out Annie, I see 2 fids heading to OK soooooon. lololololol Tink |

I would love to know how to teach my bird any trick. He is a Blue Headed Pionus and is 3 1/2 years old. He definitely has a mind of his own and can be stubborn. He will give kisses upon request. He does not talk, so it might be fun if he could do a trick or two. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. |

Wow great to have you in the flock... I have a sun conure, she's very smart, talks very friendly, but spoiled, if she's not on a shoulder or being held, she squaks, is there someway to cut down on some of the squaks, as you probably know Sun Conures are very loud. Any tips would help. Yes, I know we created this monster by holding her too much. Would a companion bird help her? Thanks for any advise. |

We'd like to get a larger bird but need more info. We live in an apartment and the only other pet is a mouse. Looking for the most intelligent bird for under $1000 |

flit Thanks for pulling this up--its like reading ancient history! The bird Toolady was kidding about sending to Okla. ended up in Minnesota and is now mine--its just funny to read this stuff! As to what kind of bird--intelligent apartment sized--How thick are the walls? If its going to be an only bird I would start looking at greys--here from a breeder they are around 700-900 dollars. I got a good laugh while re-reading this, too. I have a bunch of quiet birds, a grey, an amazon, a pionus, an eclectus and the loudest of the gang is a cockatiel. From reading the bird boards I know mine are unusual in how quiet they are. They all whistle and several talk but it is rare for any of them to scream. They usually only scream when terribly frightened by something. My eclectus talks really well, the grey talks some but not like lots of them, the amazon only says a few words, the pionus doesn't speak a word and the cockatiel jabbers constantly but not loudly. None of my birds do the morning and evening jungle calls but they all talk and whistle more during those times of day. My house is very quiet except for 5 barking dogs, usually no TV and no music. The birds all bark just to get the dogs in trouble. One bird barks exactly like my tiny little Chihuahua. The comment above about the screaming blue headed pionus has been made by others. Mine is a female Maximillian pionus, wildcaught, and over 16 years old. Maybe she is quiet because she lived in the jungle where she would have not survived very long if she had screamed. Annie |
