This week i got a red bellied macaw that is only two weeks old.The breeder sold it to me because the parrents killed the other two chicks and he didn't want to see this one be killed as well.
The thing is: I know nobody yhat has a hand raised red bellied. All people have here are the hahn's, severe, illigers, yellow neck........etc.
Who can tell me more about the temper of the red-bellied and if you can compare it to the severe macaw.[that I had for years]

Thanks in advance..................................

Eric. The Netherlands.

I don't have one and I have no info except what I found online this morning.  This page may be very helpful to you while having to handfeed a young red-bellied macaw.
Best wishes.
Annie

You're welcome. Interesting to see how much more fragile they are than the more common macaws.

I also know nothing about a Red-bellied Macaw but do have a Severe and can tell you(as you probably already know!) that they (Severes) are totally unique and seem to be a species all their own(joke...but true!) Good luck with your new one and have you ever hand feed one before? Deb

 Yes Deb,

I hand raised before and I had a severe macaw as well. They are really beautifull and a hand full sometimes but I guess I don't need to tell you that !!
I wonder how the red bellied differs in behaviour and loudness...........................

Take care..........Eric.  [Holland]

Take a look at the picture and the picture with the previous posting! Both pictures were taken last weekend when I had the red bellied macaw [Ozzie] for two weeks.

What a cute little baby.  He looks like he is doing very well.  What are you using as handfeeding formula?
Please show us another pic in a week or so.  I love watching them grow up.

Annie, I am feeding him the pretty bird formula but I think that I will try Harrison pellets when he is weaned.I heard good things about these H-pellets. He is really growing rapidly now and very, very active!

Sunday I will post a new picture because the last one is already taken a week ago.

Kind regards, Eric.

after reading about their unique nutritional need I'm wondering how he can be thriving like he is on a "regular parrot diet".  He sure looks healthy!
