Here are some pics my neighbour took last night of Beau! Isn't she a darling? She really is one of the sweetest birds I have ever met.

Boy, I've been trying to reply to this for a couple of hours! Is anyone else having trouble moving around the boards?

Beau's colouring is much deeper and richer than shows in the pictures. She's more of a deep emerald green, and her red is also a deeper, richer red.

All of my birds a kissy, but Basil (Indian Ringneck) is not cuddly otherwise, except on HER terms, and in HER timing! lol

Beau was 6-1/2 years old when she came home with me a year ago in December. She will be 8 years old this coming August. I don't know her history, except that her previous owner apparently got a promotion that entailed a lot of time away from home. He felt guilty, so decided to rehome her. Her name in her previous life was Jello. It just didn't seem to fit, so four a year I just called her Baby or Babe. Then Di, bless her heart, suggested the name Beaujolis ... it is perfect! There has been no problem for Beau having a new name!

Beau is normally very quiet. However, when she wants me to come get her, she can sure make some blood curdling squawks! She was very shy and timid around the other birds at first, but she sure isn't any more. She is not nippy at all. She with beak my fingers, but more in play than anything else. She has never actually given me a bite, for which I am grateful!

She has become much more outgoing in the 18 months she has been with me. She is reluctant to go from me to someone else, but will happily go to someone else from her cage or her playstand, or from anywhere else for that matter. Initially, she was frightened of new people, but not any more.

When she first arrived, she didn't really play much, except with some plastic balls. She didn't chew anything, which was totally foreign in my experience with birds! And she only ate pellets ... absolutely nothing else. She now eats veggies and fruit. She loves chewing on paper and cardboard, but still doesn't chew on wood. She will now play with her toys, and chews on the leather pices hanging from one of her toys. When I have her on the floor, she will chase her balls, and bring them back to me to roll for her. She's really very playful, especially compared to when she first came to me! Makes me wonder how long her previous "person" was working away from home a lot.

She has fit into my home as if she has always been here. She is my only "velcro" bird ... she would be happy if she were permanently attached to me!

She also snaps buttons off in the blink of an eye, and loves chewing on the plastic zipper on my jacket!

Abby- that is funny what you said about buttons and zippers.  (Well, not funny to you to keep losing buttons to a bird.)  I have known about birds being attracted to buttons (and jewelery) since day one of my life with birds- when I started visiting pet stores and bird fairs to get some "practice" holding a bird (before ringneck Pookie would let me touch her) I quickly learned most buttons are made with a special component that instantly attracts parrot beaks to them.

At home, Pookie leaves buttons alone, and I take my work jewelery off as soon as I get home, so she rarely has a chance to be attracted to anything shiny or dangly... but she DOES love the plastic zipper on a fleece jacket I throw on for around the house in winter.  At first I thought it was cute and let her beak it (since she doesn't chew wood or try to destroy much of anything solid)... but then I realized just how fascinated she is with it when she actually snapped off one of the little nubs of the zipper.  So I had to put a stop to her playing with that- I was afraid she would swallow a little piece.  Don't think I had seen anyone mention birds playing with their zippers before.

Its so interesting to here about your hahns. Mine is also pretty quiet. Only in the moring around 7;30 and a little in the evening and when I come home from work he calls to me for supper. He likes my daughter even though she has only been around a handful of times. He hates my son. Will run at him and throw his beak at him through the cage. Im sure he would bite him good. He has never bitten my hubby or I. He has been with us since January.

He didnt play much at first either or chew anything. Now he plays and like his willow wreath/swing to chew up. I dont know his age either. I love reading about other hahns so I can compare and see how they are alike or not.
