Amy said she was lucky to get this pic of the waterlilies. Usually by the time she gets home from work they have already closed.  This is in the big new pond.
Papa and juvenile Downy woodpeckers. Juvie on right.

Wonderful pond Amy has, Annie!

Funny how both Di and Erika asked about the Papa and juvenile Downies, even though the picture is captioned! lol

With the way our back yard is, we could have something of a waterfall feature (hoping some day) I really like ponds.
Love the woodpeckers! I see them occasionally, but hear them all the time.

I have always wanted a pond but for many years we had Boston terriers who loved to swim more than eat. Couldn't have one then. Now we have dinky 2.5 pound NaeNae who would drown. She starts running and doesn't look where she's going. She chased a neighbor dog down the fence yesterday and flipped and rolled three time before she got back on her feet.
Also blind Sonny would fall in a pond.

Amy works daily on her ponds. It's really hard work. She is in a heavily wooded area like I am and she is scooping leaves and cleaning constantly. She stands in the pond with the water up to her hips. Nasty job with so many fish in there.

Wow - beautiful pond - my daughter and her husband would be jealous! They have a very small koi pond, and wish they had room for a bigger one!
By the way Annie - they have a Boston that loves to drink out of the pond - but would never in a million years think about jumping in! They have a couple of turtles in there and one day he very proudly carried one in..... silly dog!

My Bostons, Petey, Punkin Lynn and Molly used to have a baby pool. We had to dump it before dark and lock them in the screened porch to dry before letting them in the house. Punkin used to lie down on her back in the pool. Petey laid down on his tummy. Molly just bounced around like she was spring loaded.
I miss those dogs so much. They were live wires and kept us laughing all the time.

When Amy gets back from Nicaragua I'll ask her to take a pic of the big pond. I think she said she has all the edging in place now. She and Mike went out in the country and hauled the rocks home.
This is her small pond. Their deck overlooks it. All the little decorative statuary are gone now. Danica, the Boxer, tore them all up.

Beautiful.... just beautiful! In the one flower bed up north we had an old pump that dumped a bucket. The housing for the water pump was just too small so we bought a big tote, drilled holes for the water to drain back in and covered it with river rock. Also had 3 spitting frogs that werre aimed at the pump... so we didn't have to fill it every day with all the heat.
We did dig it up and bring it south, but it's going to be a while yet before we even get it in... so I'l stay just a bit jealous.
Out little Flash Puppy has found that he can scoop water out of his bowl, and loves the way that the inverted bottle bubbles more water down... I've gotten into the habit of keeping the mop handy, and NOT filling the bottle totally... Think his paws are wet most of the time.... and we do not take him down to the lake by the back path... more likely than not he would be in swimming every time he could sneak down.... I know he would be in a pond if we had one in the yard, and would try his paw at fishing too!

Neither of our dogs can swim, so our pond is above ground with 2x4 welded wire screwed to the edges to keep the wild critters out of it.    Several years ago it looked great, but this year it's not as nice as we had to replace several of the plants and things are just growning back nicely.di

P.S.  Yes, I certainly missed  the note on the birds, right above the picture.  Duh!

Add me to the list of our most observant members..............NOTTTTTTTTTTTT!  I swear I read that thing several times and missed that part each time....until Leslie noted it.  How does that happen!
I love Amy's pond.....even the little one is super!  Bob and I have always wanted one and we always plan to have one......just never went passed the planning stage.  We have an area here that would suit one perfectly.....but the pond would not be little.  That would kill me to see the doggie walk off with the decorations and I've had to tell Mom to stop allowing Meiling to walk off with garden deco.  She thought it was cute to see Meiling march off with a big Lizard....some frogs and turtles.  I told her I wanted my gardens to have decorations and I don't allow Meiling in the gardens.  She finally stopped and certain frogs and bugs have maintained their coveted spots in her garden.  Meiling is also a water dog...she has identification problems and thinks she's a retriever of some sort.  I fill a tub that Jay uses to check tires for holes and Meiling knows just how to jump right into the middle of it.  Then she'll stick her head under the water and frantically dig.  Oh man....you know the sound it makes......the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard.  Boy....doesn't that make you cringe!

We took Flash out on the boat yesterday afternoon and kept his leash on... he tried to dive off several times! Got into shore and let the kids swim, and he was right in there diving with them! yup.... we got a water dog!

That "small" pond is so pretty!  (And not so small)   How nice to be able to sit there at the edge and just "watch".

I bet if I had fish in a pond here, the raccoons would be having dinner.

If you have raccoons around, GB, they wouldn't be having just dinner if you had a pond ... they'll be there for breakfast and lunch too! lol

Well then, I'd have no fish, I'm sure  There are at least 3 raccoons that use my driveway pretty consistently, to get between the trees across the road, and the marshy area in the back.

A friend in Washington State was telling us about their new landscaping awhile back. They worked for weeks and put in a pond with koi. One morning she woke up, opened up the blinds to take in the view of all of their hard work......only to observe two herons helping themselves to some great tasting fish!
