Feeding frenzy. Some of these koi are 16 inches long. She raised some from eggs in her first pond.
Smaller waterfall--4000 gallons per hour.
The surrounding grass has not begun to grow yet. This pond is over 20 feet across.
These koi are over 16 inches long.
Larger waterfall, 5500 gallons per hour. It's loud. Plants will hide the liner before long.
Yellow waterlily. The only one blooming this afternoon.
She kept all the koi under 12 inches in her smaller pond to grow up. There are about 35 in each pond.
Annie

Annie, those photo's are awesome.  She's done a lot of work and it certainly has paid off.  I'd be too tempted to drop by with a fish'n pole, if I was a neighbor.
If I had something like that here...my house would be a total mess...the dirty clothes would pile up and so would the bird dust on the tv....because I'd be sitting out there mesermized by the pond.
Tell me again what kind of camera you are using....I just can't get over the quality.

Beautiful pond Annie!  I agree with Dale I'd be sitting out there doing nothing all day.  Especially sitting by the waterfall listening to the noise.

Having Koi is neat especially when there are so many and so big.  She did a good job!  Keep us updated as the plants grow.

That is so attractive and would be wonderful to sit and relax watching the fish...
I remember how hot the Oklahoma summer's were and I'd be tempted to sit with my feet in the water...
Or hope there is a shade tree and go fishing!!

Feathers, my camera is an Olympus C765 Ultra Zoom. Newer model out now. I really worked on these pics though because the sun was down low enough that it reflected off the water and faded the fish. My program allowed me to take some of the glare out. The fish colors are true now. They were bleached looking before I edited them.
She walks around in those ponds all the time. She was in both while we were there, cleaning filters and pushing plant pots here and there. I told her she's going to get a foot fungus. She said, M-o-t-h-e-r, I've been doing this for years and I don't have it yet.

Scots, the algae is terrible. She is constantly digging stuff out of pots and filters. Never a day without work on it.
They do have big old shade trees on all sides except the north on the big pond. The little pond (10 feet across) gets morning sun. There is huge hickory tree over the small pond so she scoops out hickory nuts all the time. It was a mess yesterday. I couldn't walk without rolling on a nut.
Their yard is large and very hilly. My back and legs were so sore after walking all over the property.

Boy those are gorgeous koi, and ditto for the pond.  We have a koi pond, and have had blooms of string algae....some of it about 5 feet long.  We used whatever product the pond people recommended, and kept hauling the junk out, and finally got it under control. I think it kinda gets itself under control as the water hyacinth and lily pads make more shade for the pond.  Also, the beneficial bacteria stuff seems to help.  Ponds sure are a lot of work.
