I thought it might be interesting to have tips on bird care, especially for those that are new to birds. We'll have hints on getting a bird to try new foods, cleaning tips etc... And so... ( drum roll please!!!!)
My very first tips of the day!
Egg laying birds need extra calcuim as do African Greys. I have never had to give a supplement before but I make sure they all get calcuim from the foods in their diet and egg powder.
Take egg shells left from cooking and bake them in the microwave for 2 min. and let cool. Take a coffee grinder and run the shells through it until they reach a powder like form. Sprinkle on your birds wet food 3 x a week Nan

Great idea, Nanners! I don't have a coffee grinder anymore (mine died a couple of years ago, so I put them in a cotton bag after I have baked and then cooled them, and use a rolling pin on them. A lot more work this way, but you do what you gotta do!

I mash them with my fingers til they are almost a powder. Plays havoc with fingers but it does the job.

My tip is to buy a huge jug of Poop Off the same day you get the bird.

Ok while today's tip might seem a bit simplistic it's helpful. I use Beak Apetit a lot in the birds foods, and I mix it with frozen veggies.I found that if I ran water under the frozen veggies and got them to be about half thawed, and then added the hot food mixture it thawed the veggies the rest of the way. Plus it cools off the hot food mixture so you don't have to wait to feed it to your birds. Make sure to stir it up really well because  foods( especially ones cooked in the microwave) have hot spots in them, and you want the tempeture to be just right ( sheeesh I sound like Baby Bear) Nan
