I was cleaning the bird room today when I had a brain storm! (Well more of a drizzle actually). Most of the cages have some kind of base at the bottom and a shelf of some kind would fit in it nicely. I like to use as much of the space as possible, and I could store each birds toys, perches etc underneath. Plus I get to try out the new saw I got for Christmas! Since I‘ve been making bird toys I am making grunting noises in the Sears Tool section!

Today I also tried using the shower to clean off the cage grates. I soaked them in poop off and then tried rinsing them in the shower. I need to improve my technique a bit because I got soaked. Maybe I could use the steamer in the shower? For the people who use the shower to clean cages and grates how do you do it? I do put Jack Bird’s cage in the shower and let it run a bit, that seems to get the entire poop and fruit stuff off, but the grates don't stand up and I have to hold them steady while the water runs.

There’s an invention Dawn came out with. It’s a scrubber that runs on batteries, and it works pretty well for bird dishes. It has a bristle brush attachment, and so far it seems to be a nifty new tool in the war on birdie crud!

Try installing a hand held shower head with a diverter valve. Works great and you can aim it toward the back instead of at you. I have had them in all my showers for many years. I wash my window blinds by putting a heavy cord around a spring loaded shower curtain rod and looping the cord over the top of the blinds. You may be able to try making some hooks from clothes hangers and hang the grates. They do scar the bathtub if they scoot around. I like to never got the grey marks off of one tub.
Also I use a toilet mop, soft stuff labelled "just for cages", and scrub them good with that. Plus I have a rough nylon toilet scrubber with a handle for the really dry stuff. Label everything though so it doesn't get used in the toilet.

Thanks for this tip too. I can buy one of those plastic storage boxes to fit under the cage. I do seem to have accumulated a lot of extra stuff since I got Isaac.

I need some storage for all my babies toys to go. Right now all the bird and rat food and dog treats are in tikis carrier. And all the bird toys are in a plastic container. But I need more room as tiki toys keep plying up in the container and I have no room to put them in there. I need to go to the dollar store and get some storage stuff. Just more clutter *sigh*

Depending on how tidy you want your room to be, there are hammocks available for childrens' toys. They mount to the wall in a corner, at any level, and hold lots of stuff. Or do you have room under your bed for a fairly shallow but wide roll out plastic storage container? Even without wheels they are easy to slide out.
