Hi everyone, My name is Heather, I live in Wisconsin and I'm a newbie to bird ownership. We have two parakeets that we really enjoy (I once said that I would never own a bird ). We also have 2 dogs, 4 cats and 3 horses - we are a animal loving family. Thanks Equilover6 for the referral. I look forward to reading this board! |

Hi, Heather! Welcome to The Nest! Heather, I currently have four birds. I always liked birds, but never had any interest in having one of my own. Then my ex decided that he would give anything for a Cockatiel like a friend of his had. So for his birthday, I found a local breeder, and got him what we thought was a male tiel, Cracker. (Found out some time later when "he" presented me with some eggs that he was actually a she!) Anyway, the first time Cracker pooped on the ex's shoulder, was the end of his interest in having a bird! By default, she became mine, and I ended up falling in love with her. A few years later, I shooed him out ... without Cracker! lol She was almos 17 when she flew over the Rainbow Bridge. So, here I am, a quarter of a century later, with Basil - female Indian Ringneck, Pepper - male Cockatiel, Sage - female White-Eared Conure, and Beau - female Hahns Macaw. I now live near Victoria, British Columbia. Heather, you need to come back and tell us all about you, your family (human, feathered and furred)! Again, Welcome! |

Thanks for the warm wlecome! Okay, let's see a little about me...I'm married with three children, a son who is 12, a son who will be 8 in March and a daughter who will be 6 in March. My 12 year old has been asking for a bird for close to a year, I told him he could buy a bird with his own money and he must research parakeets and learn about their care and then write a list of all the needed supplies and a calendar for cleaning the cage, feed/water bowls, etc. Once he did this, I knew he was motivated and serious to have his own bird. Little did I know that I would love having a bird in the house! Now we have two parakeets and the entire family enjoys them. They are approx. 5 months old, one green and one blue, their names are Twilight and Sherbert. One day I would like to get a cockatiel or parrot, so right now I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can make an educated decision on the right bird for us and be prepared to care for it in the best manner. Then we have two dogs, both adopted from the Humane Society so we can only guess on the mix they are. The are both young and are constantly in motion and causing a rukus. We have four indoor cats as well, all rescues and all spoiled. Then we have two Arab geldings and a pony mare. I work part-time at our high school working with students with behavioral and emotional disabilities. There is never a dull moment and I really enjoy working with the kids. Yep, I'm busy, lol, but wouldn't have it any other way. So that is me in a nutshell. Thanks again for the warm welcome! I've surfed the board and have already learned a lot! Heather |
