Though not completely new to parrots. Growing up I had parakeets, canaries, finches. My dream was to own a parrot. I found a YNA in a pet store that I totally fell in love with, but my sister bought him. Years later I finally got my CAG, the love of my life. My heart was shattered when I had to give him up. My tiel did his best to make up for the loss for both of us, but then he died. That was many years ago. It's only been the last 4 or 5 years I've started wanting another bird. My daughter got my a white ringneck dove... who is adorable and laughs at us to keep us on our toes, but it just wasn't the same as having a parrot. A couple months ago I started reading the adoption ads on Petfinders, knowing we couldn't afford the fees just now. AND THEN!!!! I was talking to one of the guys in our band one night while we were packing up. He and his wife are getting divorced and he's moving and couldn't take his bird with him. Without even knowing at that point what kind, I said "We'll take her!!!!!!!" And we did. She's an 18 year old BFA. After a shakey first couple weeks (she does NOT like strangers) she is now my lovey bird. Loves to snuggle with mommy. And after a little over a month she finally stepped up for John after we came home from the vet on Friday. We also have 3 dogs, 1 cat, 3 turtles, and the dove. |

Hi, MamaWolf - Welcome to The Nest! I think it's wonderful the way it worked out for you with your BFA. What is her name? I share my home near Victoria, British Columbia with four feathered companions. Basil - female Indian Ringneck (age 8), Pepper - male Cockatiel (age 7), Sage - female White-Eared Conure (age 5), and Beau - female Hahns Macaw (age 11). I'll look forward to hearing all about you, your BFA, and your other critters! Again, Wecome! Abby |
