Hi,
I have two parakeets, Sublime and Cyane.  i have only had them about...3 weeks now.  well, they're afraid of me. Sublime isn't as afraid as Cyane is. she will at least eat millet from my hand.  i want to be able to hold and pet them if at all possible. i don't want them to be afraid. but it hurts when they bite, i'm a wimp what can i say...would it help if i wore gloves or would that scare them even more?  right now i generally let them out and just try to get a few pets in and see if they'll eat millet from me. Cyane just does his best to fly away from me (their wings are clipped). any thoughts?
oh, one other thing, are there any perticular fruite or veggies that parakeets love above all others?  mine so far aren't at all interested in either one. thanx!

As long as they are cage mates it will be difficult to break the bond they have to each other..... A lot of patience will be in order and you could try two cages where they can still communicate...... don't give up trying with the veggies ... again patience will pay off ... we've all gone through this and eventually they will try new foods..... could you hang some of the veggies as toys or attach to the cage bars? Worth a try....as for the biting it's probably from fear and with a quiet voice try giving reassurances while not invading their space.......just talk to them through the cage bars... I know how difficult it is to avoid handling them but at this time they are so fearful, strong will tactics won't help the situation...... first let them learn to trust and who knows the "meanest" one might end up being the friendliest...........Too2
