Well I went everywhere this weekend and back to the same breeder. I found a cute little baby parakeet at Petco where one of my stepdads niece is the "BIrdlady" manager. She told me about how sweet it was and put his a side today until I got there to see him. She wanted me to take him and see what we all thought of him knowing we were torn between another lovebird or parakeet.

He is so cute - yellow with some green. So small. He is on my shoulder right now. Doesnt make a peep except for a few chirps here and there. Bit down a few times on us. Daughters think he is cute but still one wants a lovebird. There are no handfed ones around except at the breeders I went to and I am convinced not to buy from her.

This parakeet is so small and cute I am sure we will just love him. I will take picture soon and post.

Patti

Congratulations, Patti! A little bundle of feathers sure warms the heart!

The first bird we ever had was a sweet little budgie ... big personality in a small body.

My experience with a Lovebird ended up being very unpleasant. I got a darling little bundle of Feathers that I called Petey. "He" was a real cuddlebug and would take naps in the palm of my hand. Went everywhere with me when I was home, nestled in there. Anyway, Petey became Peach when "he" presented me with the first egg. The first time she layed eggs she stayed the same, but with each clutch she became more aggressive. Whenever she could get a beakful of skin, she would make hamburger out of it. Honestly, she would clamp her beak down and grind!

I finally decided that since all she wanted to do was be a mommy, that was the best thing for her. I gave her back to her breeder, and now she is doing great ... and the skin on my fingers is intact.

That was the end of any desire to have a lovebird.

What are you naming your budgie? I'm looking forward to seeing pictures, and to hearing all the stories I'm sure you'll have about him!

Abby

Congrats on your new baby keet. I have one about 6mo now and he's such a cutie. He's different colors of blue. I need to post a pic. He's very vocal so maybe he will talk. Post a pic when you can.  Peggy

hi, he/she cant tell yet he is so young is mostly bright yellow some green on body under his wings and some small black lines on top of his head. Starting to chirp alittle more and finally eat today I was getting alittle worried of his not eating.
Lets you pick him up but still nips at your finger. Just now he wont let go of my index finger - ouch! Felt like a long needle prick.

My lovie was a boy - he was 2 almost 2 1/2 years old and I am sure not a girl as there was no egg laying and he was so sweet. Not cuddly but playfull, funny. I am hoping my parakeet will be too. I too started along time ago with a parakeet and then another. both lived to 8 or 9 yrs old. They both were full of energy, playful , one talked and played hide n seek with you.

Of course my husband thinks I am crazy for getting another, but oh well for him.

I am keeping in a seperate room for while until he becomes older from my grey and citron. He is way to young to be anywheres near them. i am sure they know something is up.

Pictures soon I promise.
Patti

Congrats to you! Good for you for not contributing to a bad breeder. Its the only way to make them go away.
