Hi all!!
Just wanted to introduce myself and the loves of my life! I am a 36 yr old stay at home/work from home mom from far northern Illinois. I have been married to my amazing DH for over 8 years (it'll be 9 this upcoming Valentine's Day) and we are the proud parents of a 6 year old (going on about 16 yr old..ugh) daughter who is (if I do say so myself..lol) one of the greatest kids ever (but I might be a WEE bit partial..heehee).
We are also the proud parents (as my screen name might imply) to a 10 (almost 11) year old male AmStaff (who is my BABY) named Grizzly, a 5 year old American Pit Bull/Viszla girl named Autumn, a 13 year old couch potato kitty named Yoda, and and a slew of fishies !
I have wanted a bird forever and since we have just FINALLY gotten settled into our new home that FINALLY got finished being built, I am getting my wish! After waaaaaayyyy over researching, we have begun the process of welcoming a baby Meyers Parrot to our family! He (we're not positive, of course, but we've dubbed the baby a "he" for whatever reason..lol) is still being hand fed, so he won't be coming home until the end of December, but we are able to go and visit and bond with him every day!!
I am really looking forward to all the tips and answers to the million questions I'm sure I'll have as a first time parrot mommy! Thanks in advance to everyone here!

You're on the way to starting a zoo and congrats on the new Meyers when he arrives.... I know he'll be spoiled and I must comment on the fact you did your research before deciding. that makes so many of us old timers smile and to tell you a big thank you....
Hopefully this silly MSN will imptove and we do hope to see some pixs of all the family, human, furry, fins and feathers.......

I'm 30 miles directly west of Chicago myself (sometimes ) I come back north to visit my sweety, and see the doctors.
Have to say a big thanks to the research! If more people did that, there would be fewer rescues.
My daughterr has a pit-mix too... and she is the sweetest pill in the bottle!
Welcome.... from my zoo to yours!

Thanks for the warm welcome! We've been involved with AmStaff/ PitBull rescue for YEARS now, so we are the LAST people who would ever get a pet on a whim. In fact, we had hoped to rescue a bird, but feared that we haven't been involved with them long enough (this is my first and dh hasn't had them since he was much younger)to truly be good "rescue parents." Our cat and both of our dogs are rescue and I would never BUY an animal when there are so many out there looking for homes, but we also didn't want to bring a rescue bird in and have the poor baby wind up back at a rescue or something because we didn't have the experience to really work on its pre-existing issues with it. Rescues of any type deserve better than that.
In fact, if you ever want me riled up and ranting, just get me started on all the issues involved with the bully breeds in particular...I'm not pretty to be around once I get started..LOL I turn into a momma bear when it comes to animals who have no choice in their fates and the "humans" who treat them as disposable or worse....ooookay..I'll get down off the ol' soapbox now...lol (see what I mean?!..teehee)
We are heading over tonight to spend some time with the new baby, so I'll try to get some pics and start annoying you all before he even comes home!           Thanks again! ~Chris

I'm so glad you feel the way you do about animals and the way people treat them I feel exactly the way you do I have 2 dogs, 3birds and a squirrel that I have rescued and if I could afford it I;d probubly save a few more but I'm at my limit as to what I can afford. when you take them in you  have to be able toafford the food vet and all that in takes to give the animals you own the best possible care I have 11 animals right now 3 of which are my daughters that is staying with me until she get back on her feet she just started a new job about a month ago so hopefully she will be back on her feet very soon and I can have my home back in Order.
