In the October BIRDTALK mag. there is an article-20 things you don't know about Pionus. You can still find it at Petsmart (the magazine).

I have a two-year-old BW Pionus, Phoenix.  Love her(?) to death!  Eats like a pig, is normally very quiet and passive.  She looked like hell when I got her from the pet store, but after a few months on Harrison's, her feathers grew back (head feathers were plucked out by cage mate); she plumped up real nice.  I got her last Christmas; she was vicious, refused to come out of her cage (except to bite), completely unfriendly.  I gave her her very first head scritch about two months ago.  She says "Hi, Pi."  The only reason we think she is a she is that she has been presenting herself to me (well, don't I feel special!).  There are several other birds that she needs to (try) to get along with like my Bare-eyed, hubby's CAG Logan.  I love the musky smell she emits when she's excited.  They definitely wheeze when scared, so don't be alarmed.  It might sound like they'll hyperventilate, but they don't.  I would whole-heartedly recommend a Pionus; whichever cultivar you decide on, they'll be great.
