ok the only thing i know on canary it the male who sings not the female. at least that what i always heard. on taming the parakeet u come to the right place. they are my specialty
your parakeets are they in the same cage? if so they have their flock and taming of them will be nearly impossible to do. srry
first step make sure parakeets are in seperate cages
step 2 relise taming untamed parakeets take time
neveer chase the bird around the cage with your finger or hand allow the bird to settle each time
always talk to the bird
now you ready to begain
place your hand into the cage and keep it still. allow the bird to settle down
then with your finger and while talking soothly approach the bird
if the bird tries to escape your finger which it will undoubtly do let it settle down before approaching it
when it settles try to approach it again. repeat this until you are able to touch the bird
gently very gently bring your finger from the top of its chest tdown to the feet. the bird has no chose but to step up onto your finger. when you do this repeat thie words stand up.
the bird will probably only step up for a second before leaving that is ok
repeat exercise daily for 10 minutes. once the bird willing steps up you ready for next step
getting the bird to eat out of your hand. take all food out of cage. big warning we dont want the bird to be excessively hungry so take food out only when doing the excersise and replacing it immediatly when finish
put a favorite treat into plam of hand. do not give stand up command. just put into palm of hand. put palm into cage and keep hand still. do this for 10 minutes then end it and replace food.
when the bird goesonto hand and begains to it keep hand still the bird will not be comfortable and may be nurvous wait til bird finishes eating once this done session ends. the bird may not decide to eat from your hand that ojk just repeat the step for 10 minutes twice a day
once bird is stepping and eating out of your hand you ready to touch the bird. give step up command and get onto finger
with other finger touch the bird not the brest and gently scratch/massage the bird. if it flys away that okay just get it onto your finger and repeat excersise
once tamed you can teach it to fly to you on command
let the bird oput of cage let it settle in the room put favorite treat into palm of hand and held out to the bird giving it a command like come or whatever word you choose
by this time the bird is tamed and trusts you. when the bird flys to palm of hand allow bird to eat treat this is it reward
repeat excersise until bird flys to you willing without trewat
this method has  aleays worked for me .
taming of untamed parakeets is not short. it takes a awhile\
one bird i tamed took a week anoptjher took 6 mos and another a month depends on age of bird and it personality gl

I've had budgies for years, and I found that to tame these little guys I needed to give them a very moderate wing clip ( so they gently float to the floor). They are much easier to tame when you can hold out your finger to help one off the floor.  And be very careful not to step on one.....I only do the wing clip once, when they are tame I let them fly.  A vet usually can clip wings, or a good pet store, so the feathers are rounded at the end, and very little of the long primaries is cut off, also the bird still looks pretty, not hacked. And then tame one at a time ( one should be in his cage and the other being tamed)    Good luck, Alfie

Your canary may be a male but is probably under a lot of stress right now --it has just been moved at least four times in a short period of time. Sometimes they will react to all this moving around by not singing. Now that you have him home put him in an area --not in the kitchen due to temp changes etc from cooking and do not keep moving him about.  He should be in an area where it will be quiet for him at night but where he can still interact with the family in the daytime. Is he in a long cage or a tall one. I have a canary and she prefers the long cage as they fly back and forth as opposed to up and down.  Give him his regular canary seed as well as  some stress food.  8 n1 is a brand that is good-- i dont know where you are locatedbut you should be able to find something at your pet store. Also is he eating-- try some millet and or some green vegetables like brocolli or kale--letuce can give diareea. You can also try apple etc as well.  Make sure he has a cuttle bone to--the budgies can eat the same also. hope he starts to come around for you--you can also play music of other birds singing or waterfalls etc as well--mine really likes to listen to stuff likr that. Good luck

I just brought home a canary last week. One thing I was told that is important for him to sing is lighting. I also have 30 days to return him if he doesnt sing. He still hasnt sang but I am hearing different sounds from him. From what I have read a female pretty much just chirps and mine is doing more then just a chirp but not really a song yet.So lets both keep our fingers crossed that our canaries will soon have a beautiful song to sing for us
