Hi,  just came back from a short vacation in Florida.  While there visiting a friend, we went into a pet shop to buy something for her dog.  They had a 4 year old Senegal they were selling for the owner who had moved and couldn't take it with her.  The pet shop owner was the breeder of the bird.  I played with her and asked price etc.  And told him I would keep it in mind.  (of course I had a carrier with me, just in case).  I was leaving on Friday, so on Thursday I went back and bought the bird.  She and I drove the 16 hours home on Friday and now she is all settled in.  She is very sweet, chatters a little does kissy noise and a purring noise but haven't recognized any words yet.  She would lay on her back on the hand of the shop owner, but I will let her get more used to me before I try that.
Just looked at a Senegal Web page and from what they are saying I need to change Giget's name.  She just may be a He.

You will enjoy this bird so much, I'm sure! Loving, devoted birds.  Mine is 7 years old and I've had her since she was 5 months.  Mine is not as playful as most, she has almost no vocabulary, but she can do perfect imitations of conure and ringneck screams.  A sweetheart, unless a lovebird is within her sight.

I have the Senegal two rooms away from Pnut the YNA.  but she could hear the chatters and squeeks coming from the other room.  I had let her out to play on top of her cage, and told my husband that I had to run a short errand and would be home in about 45 minutes.  Well when I got home my husband was standing by the Senegal's cage and Pnut was on top of it. (he isn't very good with the birds, Pnut can con him into thinking she will take his arm off) She had come to visit her new friend.  Getting down off her cage and walking through the living room into the den. She wasn't mean or anything, just curious.  But, so much for quarantine.  The new bird goes to the Vet tomorrow, (wed) and will stay in a seperate room until the Vet says differently.  We will watch Pnut very closely.
I think Pnut will be very happy to have a feathered friend with her in the Florida room.

Hey Peanut-  Hope you love your senegal as much as I love mine He is a charmer.  Stole my heart in 95 when I was visiting my aunt in Wash.  I then got him in 99 so have had him 5 yrs.  He talked a little before but has learned new words and tricks since.  He had a biting problem but he has not bitten anyone for a long time-several months.  He is very temperamental when he is not in the mood-he is not in the mood.  He is such a clown and tries every trick he knows to get your attention-He even screams "Get in here right now I need you I need you ! Right Now!" He amazes me all the time with what he does and says.  I didn't know he would learn new words and tricks after I got him;what a great surprise.  He is pretty much a one person bird. Hates Matt, my fiancee.  But he still tries to be nice to him and Matt gives him treats and teases him (which doesn't help) but they play like that-they have an understanding I guess.   I could go on about Jazz. Hope you have a great time with your senegal I sure enjoy mine.  So do a lot of other people.    Shelly
