Hi, Every time I come home from work, I pet my African Gray. My Gray ( Rocko ) regurgitates about three times, is that harmful to the bird? |

no i dont think so. it a natural behavior in all birds to do this to their mates. in your case your bird view you as his mate |

Hi There I have a senegal who happens to do this to me too, but she'll only do it to me. I read that it proves she is bonding to me. |

from what I've been told it is a bonding thing, but its Bad for birds to do it for people b/c the bird can choke on the food it brings up b/c we arnt taking it out of the back of the mouth, so I alway stop my birds as soon as the head bobbing starts. by putting them back on their cages or putting my hand over their head and saying enough. That makes sense Samm. Citrus tries but doesn't really get anything up yet. Do you think she's still too young? |

I do not agree with the harmful thing ... if we don't take it, it just comes up .... just like us as humans throwing something up. Same goes when you are hand feeding a bird and you over fill the crop or they decide to stop eating as you are feeding them baby food ... it just finds it's way down the front of them! That does not mean I want my bird feeding me. I just tell my birds No thank you ... I have already eaten then give them kisses instead. There are few times while 'bobbing' that food has actually been regurgitated. I would agree that you should stop them from the action but they will always try to feed you for as long as you are owned by them. It is a way to show their love of you and to let you know they have chosen you as their mate. Smiles! Kristi |
