I finally got my lineolated parakeet, that Ive been wanting for years!  He is the cutest sweetest little thing. I have never met a more gentle and cuddly bird in my life!  He loves to snuggle and cuddle and is quickly becoming a velcro bird, wanting to be with me all the time!  He is friendly, affectionate, quiet and playful. He can even be handled by my children with no fear of biting.  Im told he can become a talker, and by the way he is mesmerized when I talk to him, getting right up to my lips to see them move, I believe he will talk!  I named him Beeper because he makes the cutest little beeping sounds.  He is just a wonderful little bird, and I cant understand why more people dont own these little gems, and why they are so hard to find.  Well, anyway, here is Beeper. What do you all think?  He is a cobalt blue....

Judi,  Beeper is a beautiful little fella. I have never seen a lineolated keet before. Sooo cute.

If you want to move this message, go to the bottom right side of the last pic in your message and left click.  Hold down the button and move the cursor to the upper left by your first word. Everything should turn blue. Let go of the button, right click somewhere in the highlighted area and press copy. Now, start a new message under general and in the message box that opens, put your cursor at the beginning and click on the Paste Text icon in the yellow bar. Send the message.
I can do this for you, but it will give my name as the sender rather than yours. When I see your new one up, I'll delete this one for you.
Or holler if you prefer I move it for you. Be sure you have copies of these pics because they can get lost.  Shouldn't, but could.

I hope most of our members read on the All Topics board.  If so, everyone will see this message.  I never even know which board things are posted to unless I go look thru the individual topics. I do try to use the correct board for new discussions but the drop down above the message box allows us to choose that.

Will Beeper stay exactly those same colors as he matures? He's really lovely.

I think Beeper's colors may get even a bit more intense when he matures. He's not even three months old yet. He really is beautiful...especially when the sunlight hits him!  I had him shipped to me from Wisconsin ( I live in NH ! ) they are really hard birds to find, but well worth the search!

Very cute!  Just LOVE the colour!  Enjoy him/her as I know you already are.

I was curious how hard it was to find lineolated parakeets around here (just north of Toronto, Ontario), and I found one breeder about 15 minutes from here, and another 4 at least in Ontario. Probably have more, as a lot aren't listed, and can be found by word of mouth, or other web sites.  Finding them I know is only have the problem, finding available babies? Now THAT'S another story.   Not even going into how VERY hard it was to find a CAG baby.  Go figure, he was right under my nose at a breeder about 20 minutes from here.

Yes, Breeders of linnies where I live are virtually non-existent!  I had to have one shipped from Milwaukee to New Hampshire.  I felt badly about putting the poor little thing through that but it was the only way for me to get one of these little gems.  So we did it, and he actually traveled quite well.  Seemed just fine upon arrival, and happy to be out of the carrier!  He adjusted beautifully, so I guess it was a good decision to go through with the shipping!  Hope you can find a baby soon, if you are wanting one. You wouldnt be disappointed...these guys are awesome!!

Awwww, Beeper looks like such a sweet, sweet, sweet, birdie !!!  And I LOVE that name !!!!  I love fun sounding names.  (My bird's name is "Pookie").  You sound totally in love with Beeper and I don't blame you one bit.

He looks larger than a parrotlet ?  Is he more like a plump budgie in size ?

I saw my first linnies at a bird fair in Atlanta in June....I want to say that they were a bit more substantial than the parrotlets, not as big as a lovebird.  There is a breeder in Augusta GA who has various mutations of them--saw a beautiful creamino linnie that had a beautiful price tag I'm sure.

Everything I've read about linnies indicate that they make wonderful pets--about the same size as budgies and parrotlets but without the biting issues.  And that some of them do talk.  The breeder I talked to said that they have very clear voices when they speak.  The only thing I didn't like reading was that they do not live as long as budgies do--think the average was 10 years.  I hope that's because they haven't been kept long enough to get a more realistic average.

Oops, and before I forget....congratulations!  I love blue anyway, your little Beeper is just the most beautiful blue I've seen!!!! I am soooo jealous, I want one (or two, or a dozen).

Keep notes on Beeper--you might just be our resident expert on linnies in the future!

Thanks guys.  Yes Beeper is a too-good-to-be-true birdie so far!  He is SO cute. He will do ANYTHING to get to me when I come near. If he's out, he'll leap onto me at lightening speed...so fast I barely see him coming!  Its a riot. He is a true people-bird!

Size of linnies.  Linnies are a bit bigger than keets or parrolets.  About the size of a lovebird but not as stocky. More slim and trim. They also have slightly longer tails than lovies.  Beeper weighs in at about 48 - 50 grams.

I did also read that about the lifespan being only 10 years or so. Im trying not to think about it!  :(  I hope my Beeper breaks the record and lives much longer than that!

Im anxious to hear him talk. He makes the cutest sounds already, and he LOVES it when I talk to him. He gets right up to my lips and watches intently while I say "pretty pretty Beeper" over and over. Im sure it wont be long and I'll be hearing that same phrase back from him!

He is so far a near perfect birdie!  Im so glad I was able to get him.  If anyone else decides to add a linnie to his flock, Im sure you will not be disappointed! Wish there were more linnie owners out there to swap stories with! I"ll have to keep sharing my stories with you all, and hope someone caves and joins me in linnie-ownership !
