Hello, my name is Suzy and I am the walking talking tree for my 7 feathery friends, I have just joined BB and look forward to chatting with others. Okay my 1st bird Scooter came into my life a year and a half ago she will be 2 in October and is a female blue Quaker, she is such a good talker and has taught my others to talk, cough, laugh and make that horrible seagull noise when she wants out of her cage, she spends most of the day out with me perched on my shoulder supervising everything I do. I fell head over heals with my new friend and was lucky enough when the breeder I bought her from offerred me Dudley a male blue Quaker who hatched with a funny bent foot he walks on his elbow but has full use of his claw to feed himself with, he has a lovely nature normally but he is going through adolecence and has bitten me badly on my ear and forehead these past few days, I was bending down to talk to my other 2 quakers when out of nowhere he came and latched on drawing blood on both occasions, breeding season has just started here, so I should of been more alert to this. I sent him to his cage after it happended and it was very hard not to react to what he had done even though he was doing what comes naturally at his age, it is hard to think bird at times Dudley will lay on his back in the palm of your hand quite happily and is quite a chatterbox often I hear him laughing at his own jokes he also like to sit with me but most of the time he just like to play on the play area ontop of his cage. Then there is Mintie a male blue quaker who was an avairy bird but now lives inside with his female green split Sweet Pea, I cant handle Mintie although he will now take food from my hand and chat to me quite close up, Sweet Pea is only 8 months old and she is Dudleys little sister and she has a very sweet nature and is happy to sit with you. I also have a Pink and Grey Galah, his name is Wally and I bought him about 9 months ago he is a funny boy normally but last week I had to rush him to the vets as I noticed he had been chewing on his leg, he was in a pretty bad shape and I cannot work out how he had injured himself, the 1st vet said it was feather plucking!!!!! Gave him an injection of antibiotics and some spray to spray on his leg and sent us home. I wasnt happy so took him to another vet the next day who gave him another shot of antibiotics some antibitics to give hime twice a day and pain killers plus put an Elizabethan collar on him so he couldnt get to his leg. That was 9 days ago his leg is healing nicely and he has started to talk again, poor little man it wasnt easy for him to get food at first with his collar on but he soon worked it out, it will need to be on till his leg is fully healed otherwise he will just start chewing it again the vet says. I will be so happy when I go out to the kitchen in the morning and hear him say Hello Wally wants a kiss, then I will know he is 100% again. Then there is Molly my 9 Month old Female Eclectus who hadnt said a word till last week when I bought home a 9 week old male Eclectus, that story I shall leave for the Eclectus page Cheers for now Suzy & Friends |

Hi Suzy... Bird Brainz already welcomed you in another thread and hopes you'd share which you have.. That was a fun post to read and those little Quakers (pitbulls of birds as I called mine) could sure lay a bite on someone when the dreaded hormones decided to flare... I have a M2 who seems to be like your little guy although she has both legs crippled but can use her feet to grasp and hold things but has to get around on her hunnches... And she does well. Has since she was born and will be nine next year... I worry about arthritis later on in her life span but I do massage her legs so she gets used to having them massaged... I have forgotten what I was writing about as my neighbour came to the door to borrow the lawn mower... and I know I had lots more to say |
