This article in Birds N Ways, by Linda Middleton, gives some really good pointers on things that those of us who are lucky enough to have a new baby, will want to teach baby.
As the author states in the penultimate paragraph, "If there is anything sweeter than a baby bird, it is that same bird after it has grown into a well-adjusted companion parrot for your life-long enjoyment."

I hope you find this article helpful!

Abby

This is a great article even for those who might get preowned birds that have never been taught. It might take a little longer but it could still help.   Peggy

I never came to this section but glad I did.  That was a good article!  I just have one thing to add to it.  This worked for me!  The author said they made a mistake by putting the bird in the cage when it bit and then the bird thought okay I'll bite and they will put me down.  My bird knew how to kiss so before I put her back in the cage or on top I would ask for a kiss.  After awhile she learned that if she wanted to go back to her cage if we were sitting on the couch or whereever she didn't get cranky and bite she would start kissing me and with her body language lean towards the cage.  It worked great!

I probably wouldn't try kisses with an already biting bird but a young one just learning it might work.  It even worked for my hubby handling her.

Also I would suggest training them to go in their carrier when they are babies.  You never know if you have to get out of the house fast in an emergeny.

Thanks Indy, I will definately teach the kissing to go back in the cage. Isaac is free flying at the moment and will remain so until he has had his first moult, so he flies between his stand and the play area on top of his cage as he likes. It will be very confusing for him once his wings have been clipped and I dread having to do it. My Amazon is free flying also, and he has only had his wings clipped once in 6 years when he became hormonal and started flying at my head and biting me. But his cage is in the computer room where it is safe for him to be free flying. Isaac is in the lounge where we have patio doors leading to the conservatory. It is going to be much easier for him to escape outside from where his cage is housed, especially in the summer. If  Teejay and Isaac become friends then I will be able to move Isaac into the computer room too, but I can't see this happening as Teejay is very jealous, hence the biting when he was hormonal. I found this article very helpful and Isaac has already learned to step up and down, eat from my hand, and a spoon, he has his own spoon and shares my porridge oats in a morning. He knows  his name and comes running across the dining-room table to me when I call him. I use the dining-room table to set out his toys and we have a playtime together for about 45 minutes each day. It is good that we both have baby greys so close in age (Isaac is nearly 5 months) it will be interesting to compare notes as they mature.

So why clips his wings then? If he learns to fly between his cage and stand wouldn't he continue to do so?
I know they can be jealous of each other but if you could nip that in the bud then maybe both could be in the same room together....
I have different species, even had the smaller ones, and all got along... Still do.... Not that the Grey's can't be instrigators as they can and then it's back to the cages for time outs when they try to be flock leaders....
I believe I have my web site with all the birds pixs in here somewhere... Too2

Your birds are gorgeous!  I"m jealous!  You got so many toos to cuddle!  How many birds are there!  I was nervous just trying to decide if one too was for me and you have all those gorgeous birds!  It looked like you had an out door aviary!  Am I right?

I would still like to have a too if I knew for sure it was the right bird for me!  I don't even know anyone that even owns a bird let alone a too!

Non bird owners that would come to my house and always commented on how I could listen to Allie all day long!  And that was talking not screaming!  I enjoyed it but I am spoiled with not hearing bird noises.  Greys are like just having a blabber mouth kid in the house!  LOL!  But I still think those birds of yours are absoulutely gorgeous!  I can dream on I guess!  Missed my chance when hubby said it was okay to get the Lesser!

Wow, I just looked at all your pictures on the webshot page. They are beautiful. How many total do you have. The green w/yellow and red is so beautiful. Is it a amazon? Are any of them real friendly where you play with them or are all of them?
Great pictures.

Wow your birds are so beautiful, All of them!!! You inspire me to one day have a huge flock of birds and all of them to just sit and chill out with each other. I thinks too's are my type of birds. I want a macaw  but I just love tiki and I want another too instead of a macaw. I want a flock of too's one day that are just as pretty as yours. Geez you are so lucky to have them and there are lucky to have you!!! Kudos from me and tiki

Thank you ladies for the compliements.
All of mine get on well together and I had to start at day "go" to achieve this as it wasn't in all of their natures to play or share together.
I have two who can get a bit bent out of shape. A female U2 and the DYH.  Jealousy on both of their parts.
When it happens they are immediately brought to the time out cage in here.
I use a "baking timer" for that and they anxiously wait for the ding.
Then they get another chance to play well or the ultimate is "off to their room" and locked up in their own cage.

Patti the bird you mentioned is a Double Yellow Head
He has a permanent membership in Weight Watchers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eats like a little piggy and tells me "it's good" when he wants something I am eating. He'll crawl up to where ever I'm sitting  repeating it's good then try to grab what I have then telling me it's all gone.

I can play with all of them, can hold all of them upside down and swing them as they love that game. I wear out before they do. The like the tickling and gottcha games as they seem to like to be touched.
In the better weather I sit at the patio table and have my meals with them.
