Well, after losing the first baby last November, its time to begin anew...let Spring bring the NEW babies!
I waited until I returned from vacation on Feb 13th & put the nest box back in the cage...and VIOLA! more eggs...This time, 4 eggs. All look like they're fertile. The first one should be hatching within the next few days. I think today is the 18th day after it was laid.
Hopefully this time will be a happier event. With just one hatched the first time, not sure what went wrong...but with FOUR, they probably have a better chance of survival. Will keep everyone posted.
PS...i have a new pomeranian now (got her end of Nov) and maybe since I have her, will bother the birds less & let mom & dad do their thing...OK, I'll probably STILL obsess over checking on the babies....Can't Wait! |

yes...I went home last nite and heard the familiar faint "peep....peep....peep" and this morning had a new baby! Hard work for the little ones ahead, but I'm so happy that they'll all be here soon! |

I wonder how long (total time) it takes them to break out? I checked at 5:40pm last eve and two eggs already had started the initial 'puncture' and one baby was completely out by 7am this morning...just wondering...poor little things must be tired by the time they get free! |

Peep #2 popped out of the egg Tues Afternoon 3/11...the two of them are so cute - entangled necks, leaning on the other two eggs...its amazing that a few hours makes all the difference in the size - the first one is MUCH bigger, although its only 1/2 a day hatched ahead of the 2nd... |

Congrats, Granny! I made neighbor girl so angry once when her dog came down here. I locked him in my garage because he was notorious for not going back home. When she arrived to pick him up I said, "Look, there's your Mama." She went ballistic. She said, "I am not that dog's Mama!!" Let us know when numbers 3 and 4 arrive. We need pics, too, you know. Unless it will upset parents. Don't scare them. Annie |

Oh how sweet. They look like fuzzy bugs. Especially the one at the top left. He's the oldest, right? Cute little things. Annie |

Glad to report that everybirdy is doing GREAT and they are growing by leaps and bounds...parents have lightened up a bit from "SUPER SERIOUS GUARD" mode & mama has started to fly over to me & hang out again! They feed everybody & once the little ones are napping, they come out & eat & stretch & groom.
These babies are not even 1 week old yet (the first one will be a week old tomorrow morning, March 18th) and already the first is larger at 6 1/2 days old than the one that passed away at 11 days old. So, that tells me something.
So, will try to post pix in the album sometime today! |

yes, AnnieO - the First one is definitely the one in the upper left - its so much bigger than #2 & #3.
#2 & #3 are much closer in size which is weird cause #1 & #2 were hatched 10 hrs apart, where #2 & #3 were hatched about 2 days apart....i think #1 is just a piggy... |
