Anyone that knows about 'Tiels, please help me out.Mine escaped, and was sighted last night about four miles from my home,he has been there at least twice, and we missed him this morning, not realizing we needed to be there before dawn.He has been gone since 02/02/2008.I left some of his familiar foods, and toys, but if anybody has any ideas,I am going back out later on,my big question is should I wait until almost dark,or might I have any luck before then?,as in this afternoon?Any ideas to help rescue him would be welcome, thanks.

If you can make a recording of your voice and play it over and over while in the area he was last seen.
It is said they will stay in the neighbourhood for at least the first 72 hours.
I wish I had made a recording for my lost bird of my voice.
There is a link with suggestions on posters, flyers, etc on our side bar..

Blessings that you find your Tiel... He is probably as anxious to be home as you are to have him home.. and remember he has no idea regarding the location and finding his way back... but hunger will have him check out feeders so be sure to have food available (and water) in the yard and if there was another bird in the home, having that bird make it's calls and whistles, will also help lead the escapee  back to the right location.

Is his cage small enough that you could leave it where he was last seen? He is much more likely to recognize his cage than the roof of a house. Put his food, water and toys inside and prop the door open. Then you or someone has to check it very very often so he doesn't leave again as soon as he eats.
Good luck. That's a long time to be missing and then to be spotted. There's hope!!
Annie

Prayers that you find him and get him back safe!
The best times are just at sunrise when they start looking for food, and just after sunset when they are going to roost for the night. If you have any other birds, make a recording of them singing, talking, contact calling, and play it back as you are walking. They will also recognise the sound of your voice, so record that as you are talking to the other birds too.
Is there anyone in the area that he was seen that have birds? He could be hanging around because of that flock sound.

My Arnie got out not once, but TWICE...and I got her back both times. The first time, someone caught her, my cousin SAW the bird at the person's house, and they knew she was ours and were going to keep her...my cousin finally got Arnie back. So I think Flyers would help because sometimes the bird just flies to ANY human...and someone may be looking for its owner, too!

The second time, I was on my own. She got out Thursday afternoon, flew UP and UP and UP and got high up in the Oak Trees in the neighborhood...this must have been scary for her, as I don't think she knew how to work her way back down...

At the time I had Sid (her male mate) and another female that shared the cage with them. I took those two out in a smaller cage with me, and they hollered to Arnie and she hollered back...I was able to keep an eye out for her all of Friday, but she never flew down to us.

I put up flyers, and a lady called me on Saturday morning and said she thinks my bird is in her garden! I went back to the area where we left her on Friday, and there she was - I called to her and she flew right down to me...I think she was tired of her perceived "freedom" as the squirrels/cats/etc and not having 'regular' food to eat didn't help.

Sounds like yours has been out for a long while. I hope everything turns out ok...hope the suggestions help.

Have HOPE & Good Luck!

Thank You for all the great suggestions!I did walk back and forth yesterday with a recording of Tweets voice with ours, too. At 7:00,we could hear a 'Tiel calling, about 1-2 miles away, and he conversed with my husband as I and two friends drove around trying to locate the source of his whistles, unsuccessfully. After fifteen minutes,he stopped for the night, and did not make his appearance at the house we were at like he had the night before.I have an inkling where he actually was,and am going to try a different tactic tonight, with a longer recording, there is a large pond located one street beyond where he was sighted, and I believe that was the general direction of his calls, deep into the woods,in a SW direction.Hopefully ,we will have a bit more luck tonight, and I feel he is just afraid despite the fact he could hear my husband, and stayed put.I have a listening device, binoculars, and all his fave foods,so wish us luck tonight, perhaps we will get lucky,or closer.

Aw ... I can definitely relate to the anguish you're going through! You're in my thoughts and prayers that you and your 'tiel will be reunited -- SOON! Keep up the hope!

Cheryl
