I am now a parent to a baby cockatiel.  I named it sweety because it is entirely too young to gather the sex from.

Later I will get some pictures.

I have lots of questions.

My sweety will let me pet it ...Still tame to the touch but trying to get her out safely is still the problem she has a great big wing span....

... questions about how to cut wing feathers back to disable it from flying.   We have no avain vets around here.

I need to clip both of my birds wings because of flying around the house could be dangerous to them.

Juanita

Congratulations on Sweetly

What a pretty name to call the little Tiel and feel free to ask any questions you want... we have quite a few Tiel owners here and they will enjoy hearing stories of Sweetly.
And naturally will enjoy also seeing pixs....

Congratulations, Juanita!

I used to clip my birds' wings, then a vet did it, but now I take them to a groomer.

In any event, lower down on the left sidebar, click on "Bird Care Articles and Links". This opens a list under it of various articles. Click on "Links-Bird Articles" and it takes you to a page that has links to various articles about bird. There is one link, Proper Wing Clipping, which takes you to an article on the exoticpetvet.net site.

To go directly to the article from here, click on: Proper Wing Clipping

Hope this helps!

Abby

Congrats to little Sweety for finding a Mama who cares and wants the best for her.
I think taking her to a vet or bird groromer for the first wing trim would help you a great deal. You can see exactly how to trim her without injuring her so you will be able to do it the next time. She will need trimming after each molt so it would be good to know how.
It's usually isn't very expensive, just a few dollars, but be sure the groomer knows how to trim birds. And be sure both wings get trimmed evenly so she doesn't spiral when she tries to fly.

Congratulations on your new baby!  If you are new to wing clipping I would do as everyone suggests for the first clipping.  But ask who ever is cutting them what their clip is like.  I made that mistake once.  Too late after it's done.

Then if you do it next time yourself make sure you understand what a blood feather is.  Not sure if you know exactly how to handle a bleeding blood feather so I mentioned it.  Sorry if you do.
