If I'd have read this awhile back, I would have thought that behavior was a bit strange....the aawwwking to come out and go poop. However, last week a good friend who has kept birds for several years informed me that her grey will not poop in his cage. Apparently, this has become an issue as she travels frequently. She has sticked trained the bird to come out for anyone. So.......when she is gone, a neighbor is paid to come and let the bird out several times a day. Does anyone else deal with this in their grey or any other type of bird? Just curious! More info please! Crystal |

I have dealt with it for years. The way I finally settled it was to keep the two culprits, Murphy grey and Maxi pionus, caged for a couple of days and went in and told them to go potty. It took many tries but they finally did. Maxi is still a problem when she is laying and setting. She will not poop in the cage because at that time her cage is a nest. It is awful, especially when I have to be away and she's on eggs. She is terrified of strangers including my sis in law who cares for them when I am gone. June got a bad bite trying to get Maxi out last time. She has to be physically picked up off the eggs and taken to the stand and begged to go potty. Her cage has to be locked to keep her from going back in before she has done her job. Sometimes that means picking her up 5 or 6 times and hauling her back to the stand. But currently they both will poop in the cages, so for now I can put them inside when I need to. Annie |

4 out of 5 here have just one spot in the cage that they use, one of those 4 invariably uses hubby's shoulder as he's riding around..... Ya think after all these years that that one is trying to tell me something? LOL...... don't think I'll be trading him in any time soon though.... either one of them! |

Eevie won't go in her sleep cage, and if I oversleep, even by a minute or two, she's "awrk"ing (although, with an ekkie, it's more of a "buzzer when you get the answer wrong on a quiz show" sound) so I can let her out to poop. She will go in her regular cage, but only from one perch and only facing one way.... at least it's easy to clean up after that way. |
