WHAT ? AUGUST ALL READY??? This summer is going by fast! We've been so busy with all the home improvement stuff it's been hard to get away.

We're doing a lot of research on RV's as we'd like to do some camping/traveling soon. We're trying to escape some of the cold weather this winter.

Everybirdy is happy and healthy, and I'm so glad Dolly's lead problem is over. He's still kind of working on his feathers a bit so I may try the Pluck No More stuff that's out now

If it's not raining tomorrow I'm going to use the power washer on the bird cages. There is a setting that won't blow the paint right off lol. I'm going to scrub windows and the floor too. Yuck just thinking about it makes me want to assign the task someone else hehehe.

Our last rescue kitty of the summer is weaned! And we're hoping to find a bunch of homes this weekend as we finally have our yard sale!! Tomorrow I start pricing all the stuff and later in the week the kittens get baths!
I want them to find good homes .Heading off to bed now! Hope everyone had a good weekend! Nan

We are getting ready for a new floor in our bedroom next week.  Getting ready of the yucky carpet and putting in a laminated wood floor.  Woohoo!  Moving all the furniture out and living like gypsies for a few days while the floor guys are here won't be fun but we'll manage.

Twiggy and Glory are enjoying the summer and getting outside every afternoon in their sleepy-cages for some sun-bathing.  Don and I are taking the time to sit with them and sip lemonade and enjoy the garden together.....I think it's called taking time to stop and smell the flowers.....

We have had a wonderful crop of baby canaries and many of the darker yellow ones are moulting out to be a  brilliant orangy-gold.  Obviously a throwback to a red factor in their genes somewhere.  di

Maya, Katz has a 6 day a week job now plus her computer fried and I don't think she has gotten a new one yet.

Nay is still not feeling like posting, but I hope she will return soon.

I haven't seen Bill and Angel in a long time. I hope he will drop in and update us as to their health.

Toolady has some family problems and is still cleaning up after those nasty hurricanes. I hope she will be back soon.

It's so miserably hot and dry here in Oklahoma. Gonna do a rain dance soon.

Hello Everybirdie--hope everyone is well.

The flock is doing ok. Forrest has gone through another breeding season and this year decided to sit on 3 eggs (unfertile) for a month. When she got off them, I disposed of them, and she stated into another cycle, so I had to get her a depo-p shot to curb another round of egglaying.
Sophie developed some kind of bacterial infection and was vomiting up her dinner, so she has been on antibiotics for a week. Is keeping everything down now, and acting like her normal self, so looks like she'll be ok. Will still keep a close eye on her.
Angel has finished the worst of the chemos, had her last Taxol infusion two weeks ago, and now has 44 weeks of Herceptin to go along with an oral med (not sure what it is) that she will take for 5 years. All tests have come up clean as far as active cancer cells. She doesn't have much energy, and sleeps a lot, especially after the treatments, but is in good spirits.
I'm hoping that she will get some strength back before the end of the treatments (sooner the better) so that I can go ahead and have the hip surgery. It's getting worse, but I'm still managing to work full time. Few more falls and I have my doubts whether I'll be able to keep it up, though. No complaints-her condition and treatment is a lot more important than a bit of pain, so that takes precedence.

Hope to see you in chat from time to time, when I can sit still for a bit.     Bill

He there..I'm enjoying the summer.  Well, that is except it's been so darn hot and humid for about a month now.  I've been wanting to put the birds outside and start up my self cleaning oven, but it's too hot to leave them out there for any length of time.  I tried today for a couple of hours, but then it got too hot and Gizmo (CAG) had wings away from body and mouth open, so I brought him in.

Took Gizmo to a couple of pet stores with me to keep him socialized.  I let him hold onto the handle of the buggy in the store (whenever I stopped)  Apparently Pets Mart doesn't get very many birds at all..mostly dogs, and a few cats.  Oh well..needless to say, Gizmo got LOTS of head scritches.  He's all tuckered out now.

Hot here and mostly dry. We had some thunder and lightening the other night but no rain for us. I am so ready for October.

Di, I am so jealous of your new floors. Mine are a mess since the fire but I'm going to have to go with tile. Susie (where I work) got new ones that look like wood and they are so easy to keep.

My pc has been in the shop for a week and I got it back yesterday and the mouse wouldn't work. It kept telling me the software for the mouse had not been installed. I had to load the whole thing back into the car and I'll take it back today. I've been back on the webtv for a week and I want my puter back!

I need to feed the birds and get out of here. I'm off to work. Hope you all have a good day. Peggy

Hello to you all.  I've been away for a very long time.  Not much to report going on in my life.  I did add a Goffin 'Too to my birds over a year ago.  He's a 11 year old rehome.  This is his third and final home and both my husband and I adore him, even though he can be a pain sometimes when he decides to be in a biting kind of mood.  Nice to see some old members, and there are so many newbies.  Will try to get back here on a more regular basis.

We will be adding a new member to the flock, approx. 1 yr CAG named Ellie.  My mother-in-law has decided to bring her here.  The current environment is not a healthy one with tobacco smoke and just not appreciated by other family members.  I think it takes great currage to do what is right for our feathered friends, loving them requires a an unselfish desire to do what is right, regardless of the joy we share with our featered companions.  We currnetly have a CAG, B&G Macaw, Blue Front and YellowNaped Amazons, and will always welcome a new CAG, so much entertainment.  Yes, we will rearrange the furniture again, making room for one more.

A sad month for me.....it's a year ago this coming week that my dear little Fig left me and flew over the Rainbow Bridge. He was so sick and it was so sudden--and he was so young. But his time with me was a precious gift, Fig was truly a very special bird, and there will never be another like him. I'm so lucky he chose ME for his mom. At the start of this month I crashed my computer and found it could not be fixed. So I've been totally without means of contsct until today when I got the new unit. Whew! As to the fids, they are fine, in general. Caillou is having streaks of being crabby and stubborn (well, she's 2). Isaac is moody (nothing new). Simba (Cockatiel) is madly in love with Sidney, my Mourning Dove. Life here is NOT dull!! Marion

For the past several months, I have been able to communicate with a fellow bird-lover who lives in Romania, via another bird site.  The most recent topic of conversation has been the living conditions for the animals -- and most specifically the birds -- in the Zoo in Bucharest.  I've seen photos of the indoor and outdoor enclosures for the birds, which are mainly Amazons, conures, quakers, cockatiels, and African greys.  (And bears and tigers, etc., too, of course.)  It blows my mind that a government-operated zoo would keep the animals in such conditions.  "Primitive" is the first word that comes to mind.  And the birds' diet is totally inadequate, according to the photos.

Well, to make a long story a bit shorter, I wrote a nice (I hope) letter to the Zoo Director, the other gal translated it into Romanian, and I sent off copies in both languages last week.  I've involved some of my friends and relatives in the letter-writing campaign, too, emphasizing that we need to be diplomatic in our concerns.

Since I've been emulating Don Quixote most of my life, this is a perfect project for me.  The Romanian government doesn't have the money to make sweeping changes but we're hoping that they'll see the practicality of asking for volunteers to assist with some of the work and to offer knowledge.  It will be most interesting, I think, to see how this all plays out.

Birdlady that sounds very interesting. I hope you can accomplish something. It's so sad to see birds or any animal living in poor conditions.

I finally got the pc back. We will see how it works out. If I have any more trouble, out the window it goes.

We are going to have our power off for 2hrs tonight for them to do some work. We are not happy. It gets very hot, very fast even at 10:30 pm (shut off time). They really should have done it during the day when most folks are at work. It's not really much hotter then than in the evening.  I've had both acs going to try to get it as cool as possible. The power goes off anytime we have any kind of storm, and we can only hope that's what they are going to work on.

I'm having the floors and fixtures replaced in both bathrooms and boy is this place a mess. It is work that is long overdue and maybe it will give me the incentive to finish the painting. That's also long overdue.

Hope everyone has a great evening. I need to go fine some candles and flashlights or maybe just go to bed.  Peggy

Hi everyone, my name is Tabitha and I am married, and my hubby and I are owned by many pets.

Our first parrot - Baby is a moustache parakeet, he is 5 years old, then we have our 2nd parrot - Birdzilla, she is a Derbyan parakeet, and 3rd is Sum Dum (Chick) who is a 2 year old Alexandrine - and is moulting right now - we thought he was a she, but the ring is coming in around the neck, so he is a he!  We handfed all 3 of these birds from about 1 month old.  We purchased 2 more moustache parakeets from a bird shop - they looked so lonely, werent ever let out of their cages, and now they live with us, and LOVE to get out and talk and visit.
We also have 5 parakeets and 1 canary.  And if that isnt enough, we have 4 cats - who all know that the birds run the house, not them.
We just bought our first macaw 2 months ago - his/her name is Big Mac (short for big macaw - I blame my hubby for the names of most of our birds).  He is a Shamrock Macaw, and we are having a good time hand feeding him and watching the changes in him daily.

I am hoping to get to know alot of you, and I enjoy posting - if you have any questions, please dont be shy - I will answer all that I can.
