Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs.
Add applesauce and beat well.
Add dry ingredients (I dump it all in then stir the dry ingredients with my fingers to mix it up.)
Beat well.
Stir in raisins. (Raisins mix in easier if you use about 1/2 cup of the dry ingredients to coat the raisins.)
Pour into waxed paper lined or parchment lined bread pans.
Waxed paper will scorch, parchment will not.
Bake 350 degrees 45 to 60 minutes. Test with toothpick.
Cake pan and little bread pans take less time.
Makes 2 4 x 8 bread pans, or 1 4 x 8 and 3 little ones, or 13 x 9 inch cake pan.
Let cool completely and wrap in foil. Will be much moister and more flavorful tomorrow.
