Most of the recipes for birdy bread I have seen usually start with a corn bread mix. I got this recipe from a breeder and its made from scratch-healthier for the birds and believe it or not, once you have all the ingredients, it takes just a few minutes to throw it all in a bowl, mix and bake. After its done, cut into chunks, freeze, and heat up in the microwave just before serving. My tiels look forward to their bread every morning-its great for finicky eaters too!
1 1/4 cups corn meal
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup soy flour (I found this in health food section in my grocery store)
2 scoops of Nekton-S or other powdered vitamin
1/4 cup wheat germ oil (I use any type of oil-wheat germ is hard to find)
1 cup whole milk (can use the lactose free kind)
1/2 cup cottage cheese
2 eggs
1/2 cup wheat germ (found in cereal section of super market)
1 small jar baby food ( i use carrots or sweet potatoes)
handful of frozen corn (can add other frozen veggies too)
Stir well-pour mix into muffin cups or small bread pans. Bake 425 for 25 minutes.
