How I Became A Steeler Fan

OMAR (fan from Mexico City) at Dallas Stadium

Most of my choices as a Sports Fan came because of my grandfather, Edward C. Boyle. He was Allegheny County D.A. for a number of years ad knew the Rooneys (as well as Danny Murtaugh, late manager of the P{irates of 1960s and 1970s, Given that, and the the fact that the 1st football and baseball games I saw, involved Pittsburgh team, the choice was a natural.

I feel like I have loves the Steelers all of my life. I realLOVE THEM!ly can't remember the 1st time I knew they were my team. I do remember, however, in the early 70's my cousin was selling her beautiful country farm house. I loved that house and was so upset that I would not be able to spend time there. The sadness cvhangesd though when I learned that Jon Kolb was buying the house and he told my cousin we could visit anytime we wanted to. I imagined spending alot of time there but it never happened because a few months after hew bought it, it burned to the ground. Still, just the that I had that opportunity was such a thrill. I also worked at a fast food restaurant in the '70's and quite a few Steeler and Pirates would come in from time to time. They were all so nice and never minded giving a fan an autograph. The Steelers, no matter where they were, are the best ever. I love them!

I was born a Steeler Fan :) Honestly, I grew up with my parents watching the Steelers. I can remember me and my friends playing nerf football on the street and acting like the Steelers. Of course I was Jack Splat #58.
Plus when you live in Pittsburgh or nearby, it is kinda a law! LewDogLewis (Sonny)

It was 1972, I just happen to see them playing, I liked what I saw and have been a fan ever since.

LC Greenwood, Jack Ham and Lambert====Donnie Shell- and that great offense - Swan-Stalworth-bradshaw-Harris and Bleir===and lets not forget Noll. I just fell in love with that Black and Gold. Beinfg here in Redskin territory====I could just not see backing the skins===When people thought of Winners, everyone knew the Black and Gold was in control!!! HERE WE GO STEELERS!!! nuff said

The Steelers were my team since Super Bowl 13. I was just a little kid (about 4th or 5th grade) and was just starting to get into football. Everyone I knew was totally into the Dallas Cowboys, especially since they beat the Broncos in Super Bowl 12. And by everyone, I mean my older sister and brother, my father, friends at school, etc. It was annoying.

Well, being a little brat of a rebel, I started cheering for the Steelers just to piss everyone off. I even made a few bets... a quarter here, a Matchbox car there, a pack of Life Savers with the boy across the street... Man, I had to win this bet. I was so glued to the TV, watching that game. I can even remember feeling sick when that Cowboy defender mugged Bradshaw for the ball and returned it for a TD. But when my boys pulled together and kicked "America's Team" in the butt, I was hooked. I called in all my bets, and I felt like I had one the lottery.

I think I was a Steeler fan since before birth. My Mom and Dad used to hoot and holler for the Steelers, and as Long back as I can remember...I was right there with them.
It fits, it feels better than comfy old slippers but makes ya proud like wearing yer best outfit!! Go Steelers...

I was born into a die-hard Steeler family! I have been watching Steeler
football for as long as I can remember. I use to go to the home games often
because we had a friend who gave us tickets every season. You know, before I
moved here to Indiana I used to live in Ohio for 8 years (just imagine the
torture I had to endure living in Cleveland Brown country) and so we still
could drive home to go to the games but now that I live approximately 8 hrs.
away it's impossible. So I miss not living near the 'burgh anymore but my
loyalty to the Pittsburgh Steeler has never, and will never, waiver!!

One Night in 1978 I was lying on my grandmother's living room floor watching the T.V. I saw a coke commercial with a guy they called "Mean Joe". Been a Steeeler fan ever since!

My life as a Steeler fan started when I was a small child living in the Pittsburgh area in the 1970's. Dad was always downstairs in the "Steeler Room", which consisted of Black-n-Gold floor tiles that Mom painted herself, numerous pictures of current and prior Steelers, a lot of terrible towels, etc. To make a long story short, NO ONE was allowed to enter the room unless you knew who was playing, what position they played, and how the game was played. You COULD NOT cheer for any player unless he wore a Steeler jersey. This became a ritual in my home. It took my Dad almost 20 years and he finally got season tickets. My brother now holds those 3 season tickets and he goes to every game and now goes to quite a few away games. When my daughter was about 4, she pretended to be a referee. She knew all of the penalty calls and wanted to be the first female referee in the NFL. She is now 13.

I had no choice! But it wasn’t a bad choice. Both my parents were from PA. My Dad from Punx, and my Mom from Slippery Rock. I remember watching football with my Dad from my first cognitive memories. Especially those MNF games. The intro is imbedded in my head unlike my hair. We had Steelers “stuff?all over the house and now I have carried on the tradition.

I was born in Mt. Lebanon & raised in wetern PA, so it was kind of hard not being a Steelers fan. My father was an avid Steelers fan, so it was pretty much watch the Steelers on TV on Sundays or dont watch TV at all. Well, of course I watched them! And got severely hooked on them. And then the Golden Era of the 70's started & the addiction got truely worse, but hey, this was one addict that had no desire to "kick" the Steeler habit! We moved from PA to North Carolina in June of 1984 & I still continued to be an avid Steelers fan. When Carolina was granted a franchise in 1995, everyone said that I would have to change my favorite team, and I said "Not on your life!" One of my favorite sayings is "Ya gotta dance with the one that brung ya", & that is exactly what I do. I have passed on my feelings for the Steelers to both of my children, & we are now into a 4th generation of Steelers fans in 2 of my granddaughters.

How I became a Steelers fan: This stems from my wife having relatives in the US who are Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fans. We both love Rugby, and if you love Rugby, even though there are some big and fundamental differences between the two sports, Football is going to appeal to you too, and vice versa. But being a Steelers fan, over any other team, kind of crept up on me, I found myself not half as interested in a game, unless the Steelers were playing, or the outcome of the game had some consequence on the Steelers. I dont even watch a Superbowl unless the Steelers are playing. I don't know for sure when this happened, but it might have been a few years ago when the Steelers reached the Superbowl, and lost to the Cowboys, this got me like a bear with a sore arse for days.

Cheers,
 Scott.

Well, I was 10 years old, the year of 1984, when I finally figured out the game of football. I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio at the time. My family was diehard Browns fans, NO WAY JOSE!!!! I wasn't going to cheer on a losing team. Some friend of mine, his father had some Super Bowl Steelers Vintage papers and movies. I watched and read all about the Super Steelers and feel in love with the Black N Gold. For the next 22 years and counting, I have bleed Black N Gold through thick and thin. I love to irritate the living hell out of my Browns loving family. I am called the Traitor of the Buckeye State. LOL. I am very happy to had witness the Steelers win a Super Bowl World Championship. THANK GOD WE GOT THE ONE FOR THE THUMB!!!!
