Can you imagine Tommy Maddox at the home opener Raider game last year?  How cool that would possibly have been.  I cannot believe it would have been worse than the beating many of us witnessed, firsthand after the annual pregame tailgate.

I personally have always enjoyed going to the games while the weather is still the warmest, which means the first few games.  I have seen many, many, many losses.

Do you think much of this is because of Kordell Stewart?  It is hard for me to think otherwise, have we really improved our entire team in the last 6, 7 years to the point where the qb position is "safer" than when KS played?

I know I have spent booko bucks watching him look like a qb the nearest hs team could whip, and I am sure that you also have.  Where was the coaching?  If Maddox looked as good in practice as he has performed on the field, why in heck would the coaching staff even think twice about putting him in, at least for a few plays.  To get the ball downfield so ks could throw an interception.

These are serious concerns, is our coaching staff lacking?  Who else is being overlooked?  And please the "it is all about money line" doesn't sell with me.
Neither does the "We have so much invested in KS we are going to let him  play it out"  Both of those lines are BS, if you are trying to win a Lombardi trophy.  Your BEST MEN should be playing.  Not someone who everyone, including myself, says, KS is a great athlete, just not a qb."

As a Steeler fan, I  got caught up in that too.  But since he is no longer wearing the blackngold, I have no allegience to him, whatsoever. And if he thought the fans of Pittsburgh were "mean to him" wait until the fans of Chicago get on him, they are cruel.

Lyn:)

Lyn, your right, I also feel that if tommy was to start that game the output would have been much different but he wasnt the starter and kordell as it looks so far was the reason we didnt start out strong. Only time will tell the rest of the tale. scott

I agree with your logic here, Lyn.  I think the Steelers have neglected the quarterback position for many years.  It seemed to me like they just stuck whatever guy into that slot, and simply relied on a stud running back for their offense.  I don't know what happened, but now the team is finally understanding how important it is to have a viable passing attack to complement the running game.  I'm not advocating becoming a 100% passing team.  I'm advocating being a team that can run and pass with equal effectiveness.

I still think there is too much inertia against the quarterback position, however.  I  think the team needs to acquire a good, young QB whom they can train on the sidelines.  They have the luxury of Maddox running the show -- this is an ideal situation for a young QB (e.g., Ken Dorsey, Chris Simms, etc.) to serve as an apprentice.

The Steelers need to invest in two things, IMHO

1) A Quarterback! I am nearly 30 and have never seen the team with a steller QB.

2) A NEW Head Coach! Bloody Cowher has really taken the team downhil this past season.

Lyn,

I just wish Tommy Gun was a bit more nimble on his feet.

NOPE!  Tommy Maddox is just great!  We need just 2 things to happen in Pittsburgh for the Steelers to recover!  An Offensive line with some run blocking, some pass blocking, and some damn SECONDARY PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!

Coach Cowher could do alot more than he has to make this happen!!!!!!

Especially if he thinks Russ Grimm needed a promotion having not provided us with either a run blocking or pass protection effectiveness worth mentioning!!!!   We have a stellar QB if the rest of the team and our coaching could get things on the same page!!!!  We can be deadly with our current talent at receiver and QB!   That was proven last season,,, I thought!!!  OL SUCKED THIS SEASON AS DID THE SECONDARY!!!!!

Lets see what the draft can get us as far as advantages with RUNNING BACK, OFFENSIVE LINEMEN, CORNERBACKS!!!
WE ARE SET ELSEWHERE!!!!!

I REFUSE TO TALK ABOUT KORDELL STEWART CAUSE HE IS NOT A FACTOR!

Lol, besides, now that I think about it,,,, our 3rd week was always our BYE WEEK anyway and we didnt start playing then either..  I think it is all a mindset!   Ya go out,, ya give it hell, and ya have to make adjustments each and every year according to how the other teams are performing.  Ya gotta show more guts, more effort, more desire to win and it takes 3-5 weeks to get into the groove!  If a team comes out on fire, someone will knock them off as did CINCI to the KC Chiefs recently!  There will not be another undefeated team to compare to the Dolphins the year they accomplished that,,, especially since there were some TRUE DYNASTYS back them years!!!!!  It wasnt easy to knock off PITTSBURGH,, OAKLAND,, HOUSTON, CLEVELAND, SAN DIEGO, Etc... In the 70's.

I think we need the old Cowher back, the one that rules his own family and wears the pants often enough to say this is how things are for our benefit people!!!  I have to be intense, I have to yell, I have to spit, and I have to show passion and not just to whine about a bad call!!!!  It is how your (dad) is, how your (husband) is and love it or leave it cause Pittsburgh Steelers are my passion above all else!!!!
