http://groups.msn.com/CommunityFeedback/_whatsnew.msnw You may have heard rumors that MSN Groups will in closing, I’d like to respond to those here so that our most active users have the information you need to manage your groups effectively. It is true that we are planning to close the MSN Groups service on February 21, 2009 and will offer you the opportunity to move your group to our new partner service, Multiply. We understand the importance of keeping your group together, so we partnered with Multiply to create a migration process that moves your group to their service to preserve your online community and its history. The migration method that Multiply has built for you is still in the beta stage, we plan to open it next week. Once the service is ready we’ll be sending all of our users an email and will post notices within the MSN Groups site with more information, including instructions for beginning the migration process. In the meantime I encourage you to visit http://Multiply.com to get to know the service and see some of the thousands of groups they host already. The natural question to ask in this situation is why we are closing MSN Groups. It is our goal to provide our customers with the most current and user friendly technology available today. We made the difficult decision to close the MSN Groups service as part of an overall investment in updating and re-aligning our online services with Windows Live. In the long term we believe that closing the service is the best way to continue to offer innovative, best of breed services that help you stay in touch with the people you care about. It’s very important to us that you keep the data you created using MSN Groups and that is why we have partnered with Multiply, so you can keep your group going into the future despite the closure of MSN Groups. <Between today and February 21, 2009 the MSN Groups service will remain the same as it is now. We will remove the option to add more storage to your group but other features will remain until the service is shut down and you can use it the same way you do today until the date of closure. Watch the site and your email inbox over the next week as we will post updated information there, including a more detailed outline of your options and next steps. Regards, Charlotte Jones, Group Product Manager, Microsoft http://multiply.com/info/tour/1 Looks like myspace... grrrrr |

I know Im already a member of this group because I get the emails but it doesnt recognize me asw such so I joined again under this new email an same name I think lol.. anyways.. in reference to the closing yes it does seem like they are preparing a whole move entity... its always something.. same as yahoo groups.. always got to screw up a good thing saying its for the better an it ends up more confusing, more problems,m etc etc.. just like the grp chat for yahoo taking the rooms an supposedly suppose to be better by adding capcha to keep bots out... well that didnt last long an sure didnt stop the spamming an phishing crap.. its even worse now.. it was so much better when we all had our own yahoo grp chat room to go too .. same as msn... why they cant leave things alone I just dont understand.. oh thats right ! it all about the MONEY !! anyways Im already getting prepared for this one more added transition.. I already made me one group an profile at this new joint.. ( hey this is like changing regular bar hang outs haha) http://msncbogmusicgroup123.multiply.com/ |

This was on another group I belong to . . . There is an email circulating around msn groups, claiming to be from an MSN administrator. The email says msn is closing groups and that people should begin to move their groups over to a competitor. The link to that competitive website is given in this email AND they also claim they are affiliated with microsoft. I wrote to MSN and they are saying this is a hoax. DO NOT move your groups over to this other service. MSN groups are not going anywhere and they have no intentions of closing them. I deleted the other topic because the title was misleading, and because it contained the link to this other provider. Which I know nothing about and do not know if it is safe for our members to click on. Stay calm, everyone. MSN groups are here to stay. MSN charges advertisers their premium rates to advertise on their groups. They arent foolish enough to close them AND pass on free business to another company. This is an email FROM a real MSN support contact person. My name is Dolores and I am a Subject Matter within MSN Groups department. Your e-mail was escalated to me and I would like to assist you with your concern about the information you saw that MSN Groups is closing down and that it will be changed to Windows Live Groups. I realize how important MSN Groups is to you. I appreciate that you have written to us regarding this. J, the posting you saw is a hoax. MSN Groups is not closing down and Microsoft has no plans of decommissioning MSN Groups at this time. Microsoft has no control over email messages, Web sites, or postings that imitate company trademarks, logos, or copyrighted materials. The sources of these hoaxes only attempt to spread malicious rumors about Microsoft and may sometimes even encourage people to divulge personal information willingly. This information is frequently used maliciously or fraudulently. To avoid the spread of these types of information, we advise you to delete any email you receive, or disregard postings on MSN Groups regarding this rumor. Any important announcement from Microsoft about MSN Groups will be posted at the MSN Groups homepage (http://groups.msn.com). On the other hand, it is true that Windows Live Groups is coming in the future, but it is a separate product. As of this time, we do not have any information yet about the features of Windows Live Groups. We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the highest quality service available. Thank you for using MSN Groups. Sincerely, Dolores Subject Matter Expert MSN Groups Technical Support |

I agree with the post that the managers of another group I belong to posted....let's not jump the gun! MSN just gave us a good quick kick in the bum. Let's not make it worse by acting emotionally and irrationally and doing things we will later regret. Don't abandon your MSN groups. Your members need you to maintain them now more than ever. Don't be in a hurry to migrate or move anywhere. Assure them that collectively as a group you will survive. It may not be on MSN, but you will survive. You may wind up with something better. (the name of the group) has been through this when it was still a relative baby. We had less than a thousand members and only a handfull of active chatters when MSN announced they were canning chat. Many jumped ship and bailed. I guess they figured a group that was chat based was a dead ducky. With Your help, we not only survived, but we have grown to almost 10,000 members with hundreds of active groups using Our Chat services... our chat services that are completely independant of MSN and will survive beyond MSN. We have several months to figure out how to fix this impending mess. Help us help you. Take the time to educate yourself by asking questions on relative threads. We may have a series of Q & A chats as well as polls on the boards. Take the time to attend and participate. We have no immediate plans for migrating this group, deleting it or transferring its contents anywhere. We have not explored all our options yet. We will announce it well in advance before we do anything. We recomend that you accord your membership the same courtesy. |

dvdman, I wasn't sure when I saw the post either, but it is on the msn groups webpage. That is why when I made the post here, I made sure to include the link. There are other posts you can read on the message boards there concerning the move and Information on the Multiply.com service. Information on this board may help in understanding how the move will happen. Yes it is a move. But the groups as we know them are scheduled to go away. If it were a hoax, MSN would have removed the posts and would not show it on their "what's new" page. |

OKAY EVERYONE..................... I'M NOT SURE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING, BUT WILL CHECK INTO IT. IF WE ARE TO MOVE, THEN MOVING DAY WILL COME. I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE GROUP, BUT DON'T WANT TO PLAY INTO ANY SCAMS EITHER, SO LET'S ALL TAKE A BREATH UNTIL WE CAN ALL BE ASSURED THAT THE MOVE IS LEGITAMITE. I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE CHECKED INTO THIS AND POSTED ABOUT IT. IT'S IN ALL THE GROUPS, SO I WOULD ASSUME THAT ALL THE OTHER MANAGERS HAVE CHECKED INTO IT ALREADY. PAT, DAN, SUSAN, MYSELF AND THE OTHER MANAGERS WILL DIG A LITTLE DEEPER TO FIND OUT THE TRUTH. AGAIN, IF IT'S REAL, THEN CCHTB WILL MOVE. THANKS AGAIN, BOB |

Hopefully soon we will know we got all those that has a msn groups trying to decide which they want to go with, Mulitply or aimoo i rather have aimoo myself, much easier for those 60 and older because it much like the groups itself or he could go with one like where we have a wagonmaster board that me and him belong to and forget those others and start a new Mulitply is so hard to get around to, my space is much easier and since most msn groups membership is 60 or more, aimoo would be a lot easier for them (me or Bob are not that age, just looking out for all groups) soon as he can look and decide (and i would not take too long, for i hear MSN was truely hoping all groups would be gone before the Feb, date they set |
