Using EFT for Weight Loss

EFT's remarkable results often hold true for weight loss issues and, as such, is a vital part of weight loss programs. The benefits are two fold: First, just performing the mechanical application of EFT usually reduces or collapses the immediate need to "eat when you are not hungry." This is a big help.

Second, EFT's long term successes are due to its ability to address the true cause of most weight issues ... namely ... the need to "tranquilize" with food the anxiety caused by unresolved emotional issues. Until one's underlying anger, fear, guilt, trauma, etc. are dissipated, the need to overeat, and thus the overweight condition, will remain. This is why many weight loss programs fail in the long run. People may lose weight using them but, because the underlying emotional causes are still present, the need to "medicate feelings through food" will be ever present.

EFT is ideally designed to collapse these issues (that is what it does best) and, properly applied, the need to tranquilize them disappears. And with need go the unnecessary pounds. It should be evident that weight issues, eating disorders, compulsions and addictions have similar emotional causes. That is why they are included in the comprehensive list below.

Main Menu
(From our EFT email support list)

  • "The pounds just flew off me...": EFT Master Carol Look provides us with this weight-loss case that emphasizes the importance of collapsing underlying emotional issues.  Our emotions, as it turns out, play a big role in most weight (and addiction) problems.  In this case, Carol's client initiated her benefit by tapping along with Carol on one of our DVD sets.
  • Collapsing "hurtful thoughts" during a weight loss teleclass: Carol Solomon, PhD recently conducted a teleclass wherein one of the participants identified many hurtful comments about her weight. Such comments, of course, are often internalized and, until resolved, can cause the type of internal unrest that causes one to overeat. Carol describes many EFT Setup phrases for these comments that can be generalized to many other cases. Very useful.
  • Successful Weight Loss Over the Phone: EFT Contributing Editor Dr. Carol Look gives us the language and other details regarding her work with "Fiona" an overweight client. Of special interest here is that the sessions were done OVER THE TELEPHONE. Carol, who lives in New York, does 40% of her sessions in this manner. She helped Fiona, for example, from 1,500 miles away.
  • Over 30 pounds and counting....: There are many important points in this detailed weight loss case by Dr. Carol Look and thus it bears careful study. Among other things, Carol says, "I can not stress this enough: These deprivation issues around love and attention MUST be addressed if you want the weight loss to be permanent ....... Why was Sarah's weight loss program successful this time? Because it's not about the food ...
  • Dr. Carol Look presents a letter from Janet on weight loss: Dr. Carol Look has written many articles on our web site for addictions, compulsions and overweight that are widely read by many. "Janet" read these articles, applied their principles to her own weight issues and then wrote the letter below to Carol. The letter is self-explanatory and is filled with insights about how EFT works from the client's point of view.
  • Weight loss case--25 pounds: Here is another example from Dr. Carol Look regarding the emotional causes of being overweight.
  • Weight loss--God you're fat: As is so often the case, efforts at losing weight MUST focus on unresolved emotional issues.  Otherwise, people spin wheels by using will power to get temporary results through diet and exercise.  It is only when the angers, guilts, fears, traumas and anxieties are resolved that permanent loss can take place.  That's because they are often the drivers behind overeating ...
  • To Achieve Weight Loss, Emotional Issues Had to go First: The weight loss industry is huge in America and that is largely because people don't get long term results.   Thus they go from plan to plan in hopes of finding the magic answer ... spending lots of money in the process.
  • Using the client's cravings to enter into addictions and overweight cases : Dr. Carol Look has an impressive record using EFT for addictions, weight loss and the like. While there are many ways to approach these multi-faceted cases, Carol's article below illustrates one approach that should have particular appeal to many readers on this list.
  • Following up on a 30 pound weight loss: Dr. Carol Look is a specialist in both weight loss and addictions (they have similar core issues). In this article, Carol describes the progress of "Mary" as she successfully loses 30 pounds. Not only does Carol emphasize the use of client homework but she also goes for the emotional drivers behind Mary's overweight condition. At one point she says.....
  • A "One Session Wonder" for quitting smoking: Dr. Alexander Lees of Canada leverages off of his client's beliefs in order to provide the necessary "mental set" to stop smoking. Please note how Alex describes his client's sense of pride for winning (a form of perfectionism) and then professionally combines that need with EFT for a successful "one session wonder" on smoking.
  • Dr. Carol Look's series on weight loss.: Dr. Carol Look provides us with a series regarding the use of EFT for weight loss. The subsequent installments are appended below. Notice the various well-worded Set Up statements and her pivotal, core-issue question, "What happened the last time you were at your goal weight?"
  • Using EFT for a headache provides aid to alcohol recovery: Sometimes the simplest applications of EFT can lead to profound results.
  • Loretta Sparks' series on chronic addictions: Loretta Sparks has many years of experience with clients that are "chronically addicted." For this severe form of addiction, she finds it helpful to clear "another level of energy system disturbance" before applying EFT. She calls the procedure EFT Plus and outlines it below. There are other levels of EFT Plus which are appended to the end of this message.
  • Successful 21 month follow up on a 20 year chewing tobacco addiction.: Dr. Carol Look reports on the successful elimination of "Fred's" long term addiction for chewing tobacco. Please pay particular attention to her methods and persistence for getting at the numerous "emotional drivers" that underlie the addiction. She takes aim at Fred's favorite times to chew and, from there, delves into many other aspects.
  • Dialogues with Smokers--Parts I & II: Loretta Sparks, an addiction specialist with over 20 years experience, provides us with these useful experiences.
  • Bulimia in Brazil: Those of you who have been on this list for awhile will recall Sonia Novinsky, the Brazilian therapist who has contributed so elegantly to our understanding of how best to deliver these procedures. I was privileged to meet this South American Rose in person at the recent Las Vegas Energy Psychology Conference where she and Dr. Carlos Rabinovich, a dedicated Brazilian M.D., were in attendance.
  • Emphatic tapping for a sugar addiction: Go to the health section of any major book store and you will find several books pointing the finger at sugar as the villain behind many of our many physical ailments. Like tobacco and alcohol, sugar serves to sap away our mental and physical functioning in insidious ways. Also like tobacco and alcohol, sugar can be an addictive substance. This contributes, of course, to a downward spiral wherein we crave more and more of that which is soaking up our vitality ...
  • Dr. Carol Look's compulsive overeating and weight loss protocol: Dr. Carol Look received many responses regarding her recently published (on this list) stop smoking procedure. A frequent request was for her parallel procedure for compulsive overeating and weight loss. She graciously describes it below.
  • Love, diligence and an eating disorder: Sonia Novinsky provides impressive examples for us in (1) persistence, (2) being a detective to find core issues and (3) addressing numerous aspects and tail enders. As you can tell from her message, English is not her first language. Usually I "clean up" messages like this so they can be more easily read by this English speaking audience.
