OK here it is... what I do to be a Good Toad, take care of my health and loose some excess pounds....
I've intergrated timing my meds with times I eat to prevent myself from forgetting what I'm supposed to do when. You , hopefully won't need meds to survive, but I do, and with my short-term memory magnification, the more things I have to remind me to be a good toad, the better.
What was I saying?
Hehehe Just kidding!
Basically my diet centers around the diabetic flavor of low/controlled intake of carbohydrates balanced with protiens. I had to educate myself on the carb content of just about EVERY food, but it was worth it! I have learned to STRICTLY minimize eating high carb content foods, such as corn, potatoes, pasta, etc. but allowing myself either a limited amount, or just ONE bite to satisfy the craving of it.
I also keep my water bottle with me ALL the time, everywhere I go and drink about 4-6, 20oz bottles of water EVERY day!!! Keeping myself hydrated is extremely important!!!
I haven't worried about fats or calorie counts because when I do I wind up feeling like a victim of my diabetes, get angry and tend to say "Screw this crap!" So I don't deny myself anything, I just control how much I consume.
Ok...I have to wake up at 6am to get the kids up for school, so I take my thyroid meds first thing, cause I have to take them on an empty stomach and wait 20-30 minutes before I eat anything. I also drink 8-10 oz of water at that time.
7am- Boot the kids out the door to catch the bus, have a slimfact meal bar, a cup of coffee with half an half and splenda and take my diabetes and blood pressure meds. and refill my water bottle.
9-9:30am- Snack time! I might have a slimfast snack bar, or 1/2 a meal bar
OR a hardboiled egg with a piece of fruit,
OR 1/4 cup of honey roasted cashews
OR 16 wheat thin crackers topped with cheddar cheese
(see how I eat protein WITH the carbs? The carbs metabolize better when mixed with protien)
11:30-12noon- Take my pills....then eat Broiled chicken breast on a Caesar Salad with garlic toast
OR a medium sized Arby's Roast Beef sandwich.... NO FRIES
OR a PBJ sandwich (2TBsp p-nut butter with 1TBsp sugar free fruit spread)
OR 3 Schwan's chicken egg rolls (you can find these at Jack-in-the-Box)
OR 1 large Burrito
OR a cheese sandwich
OR a balony sandwich
OR a smaller serving of whatever we had for dinner the night before
3-4pm-Tea time! I might have a slimfast snack bar, or 1/2 a meal bar
OR a hardboiled egg with a piece of fruit,
OR 1/4 cup of honey roasted cashews
OR 16 wheat thin crackers topped with cheddar cheese
6-7pm- med time again! with a Taco salad
OR Steak, salad, and 1/2 a baked potato
OR chicken, coleslaw, mashed potatoes (ONE tsp only!!!)
OR Veggie stirfry with 1cup of rice
OR Smoked sausage, 1 cup mac-n-cheese, fried apples (1 cup), salad
OR meatloaf, assorted veggies, 1 tsp potatoes
9-9:30 Late night mini Snack!
this is the time of day I really crave something sweet!
So sometimes I will have a tablespoon of ice cream and just eat it off the spoon, for two reasons,
1. I'm not tempted to add to that wee amount so it won't feel lonely in that great big bowl.
2.I know I'm too lazy to go back into the kitchen to get another scoop! LOL
OR one piece of toast with butter and TBsp of sugar free fruit spread
OR 1/2 cup cereal w/ milk
OR a 1/2 of a slimfast strawberry cheesecake meal bar
I usually go to bed around 11pm to 1am depending on if I'm caught up in something online or have late night visitors. That's when I take my daily vitamins.
So there is my day so far.
It may not be ideal, or "THE ANSWER", but it has worked for me and I thought I would share it with you.
BIG HUGS!
